Replacing valve stem seals

All engines

High oil consumption can be caused by wear and tear of valve stem seals. Valve stem seals on engines VZ, B5, B6 (SOHC), BP (SOHC) can be replaced without removing the cylinder head, in any case, the necessary special tool MAZDA SST 49B0210A0, as well as compressed air nozzle (HAZET 3428). On other engines or if there is no special tool is necessary to remove the cylinder head.

Withdrawal

Engines B6 (DOHC), BP (DOHC) and diesel engines

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Remove the camshaft and bucket tappets. See Section Removal and installation of camshafts.
  2. Remove the cylinder head, see. Section Removal and installation of the cylinder head / replacement of the cylinder head gasket.
  3. Remove the valves. See Section Removal and installation of valves.

Engines OT, B5, B6 (SOHC), BP (SOHC)

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Remove the rocker arm shaft. See Section camshaft / camshaft drive mechanism.
  2. Unscrew all spark plugs.
  3. Set the piston of the corresponding cylinder at bottom dead center (BDC). To do this, first install the crankshaft in a position corresponding to the TDC of the piston of 1st cylinder. See Section Removal and installation of a gear belt of engines VZ, B5, B6 (SOHC), BP (SOHC).
  4. If the piston of 1st cylinder is at TDC, pistons of 2nd and 3rd cylinders are in a BDC. Mark pulley below the chalk, then tighten the crankshaft 1/2 turn (180 ?), to the chalk mark is at the top. Now the piston cylinder 1 is at BDC.
  5. Screw the compressed air nozzle HAZET 3428 in carving candles corresponding cylinder.
  6. If there is no special device, you can make a nozzle for compressed air from the old spark plugs. To do this, cut off the electrode mass -1. Break off the ceramic insulator -2- with a screwdriver and break off the middle electrode -3. Knock out the remnants of the center electrode with a connecting element -4 and -5 finger appropriate knockout (approx. 3 mm). At the same time hold a candle in a vise or inserted into a socket.

Carving candles should not be damaged in order to prevent subsequent damage threaded hole candles.

  1. Screw in the prepared candle in the corresponding cylinder and connect the hose to the air compressor.
  1. Maintain a constant pressure in the cylinder 6 bar.
  1. Screw the bracket to the support 1 and 5 MAZDA 49V0120A0 device and using the tool to compress the valve springs.

The piston must be at BDC.

  1. Remove the crumbs of the valve, loosen the valve springs.

Durable sitting crackers to weaken easy blows of a hammer on the mount.

  1. Remove the cup and valve springs.
  1. Remove the valve stem seals. To remove the workshops used a special device (MAZDA SST49S120170, HAZET 791-5 or HAZET 791-2). The old valve stem seals sit very firmly. To remove the possible impact, use a screwdriver.

Setting

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Push the hand valve stem seal on the valve guide.
  1. With the help of a special device MAZDA SST49L012001 SST49L012002 Drive and valve stem seal by hand until the special tool touches the cylinder head. If there is no special device, you can use a suitable pipe of the same diameter, non-sharp edges.
  1. Insert and tighten the cup springs and valve springs.
  2. Insert biscuits valves, loosen the spring.
  3. Likewise, to replace all stem seals. Fit bucket tappets and camshaft. See Sections camshaft / camshaft drive mechanism, Removing and installing camshafts.

Engines OT, B5, B6 (SOHC), BP SOHC)

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Install the rocker arm shaft. See Section camshaft / camshaft drive mechanism.
  2. Set all spark plugs.

Engine BP (DOHC) and diesel engines

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Install the valve. See Section Removal and installation of valves.
  2. Install the cylinder head, see. Section Removal and installation of the cylinder head / replacement of the cylinder head gasket.
  3. Install camshaft and bucket tappets. See Section Removal and installation of camshafts.
