Compression

Compression check allows you to draw conclusions about the state of the engine. If you check it, you can determine whether the normal valves or pistons (piston rings) or they are worn. Furthermore, the results of control can determine whether the engine is subject to change or it can be repaired in the complex. To test the device for monitoring the required compression.

The difference in pressure between the individual cylinders must be a maximum of 1.5 bar. If the difference in pressure is more than 1.5 bar, it is a sign of defective valves worn piston rings or guide cylinder. If the wear limit is reached, the engine must be repaired or replaced.

Compression pressure should be: for the 4-cylinder engine of 10-14 bar, 6-cylinder about 12 bar.
PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. To warm up the engine control compression. After reaching the operating temperature of the coolant Pass another 5 km to ensure sufficient engine oil temperature.
2. Lift the bonnet.
3. The engine of 1.8 / 2.0 L: switch off the ignition. Sensor crankshaft position (L5), disconnect from the PMS-control unit.
4. The engine capacity of 2.2 / 2.8 L: switch off the ignition. Remove the cover of the control unit behind the front wall of the body. Remove the plug (A) of the HFM-control unit (N3 / 4).
5. Remove all spark plugs.
6. Crank the engine a few times a starter to remove deposits and soot.
A warning

Install the transmission to the idle position and apply the parking brake. During scrolling do not lean over the engine: risk of injury!

7. The device control compression (01) in accordance with the instruction manual or insert a screw rod (04) into the spark plug hole. Enter a new sheet for the diagram (03), (02) the intermediate member.
8. Instruct the assistant to press the accelerator pedal all the way and hold it down until the end of the test.
9. Engine should make about eight turns, until the rise of fixed pressure measuring device.
10. One by one check all cylinders and compare with the nominal value.
11. Then insert the spark plug.
12. When the ignition off, slide the sensor position of the crankshaft to the PMS or HFM-control device. Replace the cover of the control unit HFM.
13. Close the hood.
