Valve stem seals

Worn valve stem seals may cause increased oil consumption. The caps can be removed and installed in the cylinder head. True, this requires compressed air and an ejector lever with a support device, for example, Mercedes-11 589 015900, 11 589 186 186 100 and 589 256 300 11 If there is no special tool, it is necessary to remove the cylinder head.

Below is how to replace the valve stem seals for the 4-cylinder engine and 6-cylinder - act in the sense of using the appropriate tool.

Withdrawal

A warning

If items control valve will be used again, they have to be mounted on the same place. In order not to confuse parts, fabricate a special panel to store them.

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Remove camshafts.
2. Remove the spark plugs.
3. Remove the protective coating on the wires of the engine bulkhead.
4. Screw supporting web (2) with the movable member (7) to the bearings 5 and one of the camshaft or after the bearings 6 and 10 to 20 Nm
5. Turn the piston at top dead center of the corresponding cylinder wrench with a nozzle. 4-cylinder engine: the TDC pulley pistons 1 and 4 are at TDC. When a match is 180-degree mark pulley with a base in the TDC mark are the pistons of cylinders 1 and 6. The 6-cylinder engine: the pulley TDC TDC are the pistons and cylinders 1 and 6. In case of coincidence of 120-degree mark pulley - pistons cylinders 2 and 5; at 240-degree mark - Piston 3 and 4.
A warning

When you rotate the crankshaft high lift control circuit that it is not jammed.

6. Hook the plunger arm.
7. Pull out the pusher plate (3) of the rubber suction cup (diameter 30 mm), for example, HAZET 735-2.

A warning

Do not use a magnetic trap, as magnetized follower plate sliding surface and subsequently deposited on it fine metal chips, resulting in damage to the pusher and cam.

8. Lock the crankshaft. To do this, first gear and apply the parking brake.
9. Install in the combustion chamber of the cylinder gauge pressure of at least 6 bar. To do this, screw in a connector hose (4) device for leak testing cylinder spark plug hole. If there is no leakage control device can be made suitable hose with an old spark plug.
10. Bite electrode "weight" of the old spark plug (1). Break the ceramic insulator (2) with a screwdriver and break off, swinging back and forth, the middle electrode (3) and remove. Push the punch (about 3 mm) remains of the middle electrode with the glass (4) and a connecting pin (5). At the same time, hold the spark plug in a vice or use the appropriate vintonareznoy machine.

A warning

Do not damage the threads of the spark plug so as not to spoil the thread holes in the cylinder head.

11. Screw the spark plug into the corresponding cylinder, connect the hose to the discharge of air in the cylinder and set an overpressure of at least 6 bar.
12. Install the pusher arm (9) with the pressure piece (5) on the valve spring plate. Place the piece of pressure and a movable piece in parallel. Moving parts lock bolt (8).
13. Tighten the valve spring.
A warning

Do not compress the valve spring without compressed air, otherwise it may damage valves and pistons.

14. Details of the valve stem (14), remove the valve stem with tweezers (6) or a magnetic trap.
15. Remove the valve spring plate (15) and a valve spring (17).
16. Remove the valve stem seal (86) from the valve stem with special pincers, for example, HAZET 791-6.

A warning

Do not damage the stem and the valve guide.

17. Remove the valve spring plate (15) and a valve spring (17).
18. If necessary, remove any burrs from the groove of the valve stem particulate emery cloth.
19. Check the valve guide wear in fit them to the valve stem seals. Replace the valve guides (job for repair shops).

Setting

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Bent rod parts, valves and replace the spring plate.
2. The valve guides, which are rejected by holding groove for valve stem seals should be replaced (for studio work).
3. Place the protective sleeve (2) on the valve stem.
4. Oil the valve stem seal (86) and push manually using the mounting mandrel.
A warning

Mounting mandrel is part of the repair kit. When the nozzle without mounting mandrel damaged sealing lip valve stem seals.

5. Fit the valve spring and the valve spring plate.
6. Insert the details of the valve stem, the valve spring unclench.
7. Set the bucket tappets.
8. Replace the valve stem cap.
9. Remove the spark plugs.
10. Install the camshafts.
11. Secure the cover sets the engine wiring harness on the bulkhead.
