Compression check in engine cylinders
1. The test results of compression in engine cylinders allow to judge the state of the engine parts (pistons, rings, valves, cylinder head gasket). For accurate results, check the engine should be warmed up to normal temperature, and the battery is fully charged. 2. Remove the spark plugs. Fully open the throttle and choke valves. 3. Disconnect the central high-voltage wire from a cover of the distributor of ignition, connect it to the ground. 4. Insert a compression gauge in the spark plug hole of the cylinder 1 st (photo). Include a starter and watch the pressure gauge. On the serviceable engine pressure should accrue quickly. Low pressure after the first piston stroke and slow increase at the subsequent steps of compression specifies in deterioration of piston rings. If after the first piston stroke pressure low, and at the subsequent steps of compression does not increase, the reason is leak in valves or tightness of the cylinder head gasket (the reason could also be the formation of cracks in the head). Record highest compression setting and repeat for the other cylinders. 5. Repeat on the other cylinders. 6. If, after the introduction of oil into the cylinder (10-15g) compression is raised, it can be concluded that the worn piston ring. If the compression increases slightly leak occurs through valves, or cylinder head gasket. 7. If a compression equally low only in two next cylinders, the most likely reason is the lining burn-out between these cylinders. 8. If the value of a compression exceeds norm the combustion chamber is covered with soot. In this case, it is necessary to remove the cylinder head and remove carbon deposits.

9. If a strong difference of compression in the cylinders of the car should be returned to the service station to check the cylinder by crimping.
