Cylinder head-cleaning and testing of state

1. Thorough cleaning head (or heads) of cylinders and valve train parts, followed by a test will assess the amount of work to repair the valves and the valve mechanism.
2. Remove from demountable surfaces of a head gasket material remains of all, being careful not to damage the surface. Remove the carbon deposits from the combustion chambers, and the scale of the channels of the cooling system. Banish and clean all threaded holes.
3. Clean all parts with solvent valve train, rocker arms and rollers.
4. Remove carbon from the valve head.
5. Carefully examine a head, check for cracks and signs of penetration of the coolant. At detection of cracks a head replace.
6. Check the deformation of a demountable surface of a head (photo). If the deviation from a plane exceeds norm a head should be reground in a workshop service centers.

Attention!
The head of the V6 engine to be reground and split plane collectors. In this case, the assembly should check freedom of rotation of a cam by hand. If you experience significant resistance to rotation, replace the head.

9.12 Measuring the length of the valve spring in a free condition
9.12 Measuring the length of the valve spring in a free condition

7. Check the condition of the valve seats. In the presence of pitting (holes), cracks, traces of burning heads need repair workshop Car.
8. Check the valve clearance in the direction parallel to the axis of the rocker (photo). If the total clearance by John cators higher than normal, check the clearance between the sleeve and the valve (this is done in the service station)
9. Check the condition of the camshaft bearings.
10. Carefully inspect the valves, check valves on facets of cracks, traces of uneven development, ablation of metal and burnout. Check for cracks on necks and cores, as well as bend of cores, turning the valve in the directing plug. Check the wear on the ends of the rods. The presence of any of these defects indicates the need for valve repair workshop Car.
11. Measure the width of a regional corbel each valves and compare to standard value (see photo). If this distance is less than 0.8 mm, the valve must be replaced.
12. Check for signs of wear and holes at the ends of each of the valve spring.
Measure the length of the spring in the free state (photo). Before installing the springs on the repaired engine should be tested under load on a special stand (performed in a workshop service centers).

9.13 Checking the verticality of the springs
9.13 Checking the verticality of the springs

13. Check the verticality of the spring (see photo). Upon detection of deviations from the vertical spring deflection and the length of spring should be replaced.
14. Check for visible signs of wear and cracks on plates of springs and crackers. Details with any defects replace.
15. Check rocker rollers and described in Part B Ch. 2.
16. If the inspection found that the wear is not excessive, then assemble the cylinder head by setting the details on former places. Perform repair of a head of cylinders of any complexity should be in the service station.
