Crankshaft - Removal
Comment. The crankshaft can only be removed after dismantling the engine from the car. Pre remove a flywheel (or a leading disk), a pulley-damper chain, pallet, oil receiver, oil pump (on V6), the front cover with the pistons and connecting rods. | 11.46 ... and carefully remove the piston and connecting rod |
1. First check the axial play of the crankshaft (photo). Why move the crankshaft toward the rear of the engine, make every effort, and in this position, set the dial indicator to zero. Then push the crankshaft towards the front of the engine and read the display. The amount of axial clearance is the distance by which the shaft is moved. If axial play exceeds the standard value, check the wear of the thrust surfaces of the crankshaft cheeks. If the wear is negligible, the clearance should be compensated by the installation of new main bearings. Backlash can be measured by probes, paving between the end of the third main bearing (or 4th on engines V6) and crank cheek. 2. Check on the covers of orientation arrows and labeling cylinder number. Usually the lid are numbered starting from the front of the engine. If the marking is absent, put labels a core. Release the cap bolts 1/4 turn at a time in the sequence reverse (photo), until the bolts would not turn away from the hand. | 12.1a Checking crankshaft endplay indicator ... |

3. Carefully slide the crankshaft bearing caps and remove them together with the liner. On 4-cylinder engines cover the rear and middle bearing removal tool (see photo). On V6 engines cover molded in a single frame. 4. Carefully remove the crankshaft. Install the cover with inserts in the same order and tighten the screws by hand.
