Check and adjust valve clearances

This procedure is one of those whose implementation does not require the removal of the engine from the car. Performing the procedure must be performed on a cold engine.

Check

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Remove the intercooler air pressurization system (Intercooler) (cm. Power supply systems, engine control / emission control and exhaust).
  2. Remove the cylinder head cover.
  3. Having turned a cranked shaft so that the cams drive intake and exhaust valves on the camshaft-lobed turned up, bring the piston of the first cylinder in position of the TDC.
1 - the intake valve drive cam
2 - a drive cam of the exhaust valve
  1. With the blade of the probe, measure the value of the valve clearances, record the result.
  1. Cranking the engine in the normal direction, repeat for the remaining valves, moving from cylinder to cylinder in the ignition order.
  2. Compare results of measurements to requirements of Specifications of the Head of engine, if necessary, make the appropriate adjustments.

Adjustment

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Place the camshaft so as to drive the cam to be adjusted the intake valve lobe appeared deployed vertically.
  2. In order to facilitate access to the shim, expand the valve tappet risks towards the inlet pipeline.
  3. With the help of a special device press the plunger down and, using a small screwdriver or other suitable tool, remove the shim.
Removing the shim.
1 - Shim
2 - Pushers
3 - Inlet
4 - Graduation
  1. After making the necessary calculations, pick up a new shim thickness required, put it into a pusher and retest.

When calculating the required thickness of the new shim should use the following formula:

H 1 H 0 = (d M - d S)

Where: ??

N 1 - Estimated thickness desired goals

H0 - Thickness remove washers

d M - The value of the measured gap

d S - Standard value gap

For example:

Let:

H 0 = 4.00 mm, d M = 0.30 mm

d S = 0.25 mm,

Sample collection of background information in the required thickness of the new shim

1 - the intake valve drive cam
2 - Shim
3 - Valve clearance

Then:

1 H = 4.00 (0.30 - 0.25) = 4.05 (mm)

The sale comes shims three size ranges: 3.400 ÷ 3.650 mm and 4.350 ÷ 4.600 mm to 0.050 mm increments and 3.700 ÷ 4.300 mm to 0.025 mm increments (of 37 choices). The thickness of the washers can be determined from the ejected code number on it: for example, a washer with the number 3825 has a thickness of 3.825 mm.
