Check thermostat

Verification without removing the thermostat

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Before you remove and check the operation of the thermostat, make sure that the problems with the cooling of the engine did not occur as a result of the fall of the level of coolant or loosening the timing belt. Check the operation of the indicator in the instrument cluster.
  2. If the engine is warming up fast enough to operating temperature (according to the indicator), remove the thermostat (see. Section Removal and thermostat installation) and check to see if it is stuck in the open position - in case of need make replacement.
  3. It is also an option that simply was not the thermostat is installed in the course of the last car maintenance. Operation of the vehicle when removing the thermostat is characterized by high fuel consumption and excessive concentration of toxic components in the exhaust gases.
  4. If the engine overheats Feel the upper radiator hose - if the hose is not heated, so the thermostat is stuck in the closed position and the coolant continues to circulate in a small circle, not getting into the radiator. Replace the thermostat. Otherwise, you should consider other possible causes of engine overheating (see. Section Troubleshooting Chapter introduction at the beginning of the Guide).

Check with the removal of the thermostat

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Remove the thermostat (see. Section Removal and installation of the thermostat).
  1. Lower the thermostat on a piece of string in a water-filled container - thermostat must not touch the walls of the container.
  1. Put a thermometer in the water and begin to heat the container, observing the behavior of the main and auxiliary valves thermostat. Compare results of measurements to requirements of Specifications of the Head of System of cooling, heating, ventilation and air-conditioning.
  1. Remove the thermostat and let it cool - valves should be closed completely.
  2. Faulty thermostat must be replaced.
