Removing and installing heat exchanger heater

Considered in this manual cars are equipped with additional safety SRS, better known as the airbag. Before performing any work near the airbag assembly or the steering column, without fail disconnect system to avoid injury due to accidental operation of it (see chap. Onboard electric equipment). Insulation and wiring connectors of chain SRS painted in bright yellow color. Do not connect the circuit to any diagnostic tools!

The air conditioning system is constantly under high pressure. In no case do not disconnect refrigerator lines and do not remove any components without first running the last discharge. Discharge the air conditioning system should be carried out by experienced specialist in the workshop car service. When disconnecting refrigeration lines, always wear protective goggles!

Do not suppose antifreeze hit on open sites of a body and the painted surfaces of the vehicle. Casually got splashes immediately wash off with plenty of water. Remember that antifreeze is highly toxic liquid and its hit in an organism even in small amounts is fraught with the most serious consequences (including death). Never leave antifreeze stored in leaky closed container and immediately collect spilled on the floor coolant. Remember that the sweetish smell of antifreeze can draw the attention of children and pets. About disposal of used coolant, consult on any station, car service. In many regions of the world special points on any reception of working off. In no case do not drain the old coolant down the drain and to the ground!

Recently developed non-toxic antifreeze varieties, but they also must be disposed of in an orderly manner.

Before proceeding with the procedure, wait for the complete cooling of the engine.

It seems reasonable to entrust the procedures for replacing the heat exchanger service specialist.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. When the vehicle make a corresponding easing of the air conditioning system at the service station.
2. Turn the control knob operation of the heater to the maximum heating (HOT). Drain the cooling system (see chap. Adjustment and routine maintenance). If the replacement coolant made recently, save it for later use.
3. Disconnect the negative wire from the battery.

If installed on the car stereo is equipped with a security code before to disconnect the battery make sure that have a correct combination for audiosystem input in action!

4. In the engine compartment, disconnect the hose from the engine cooling path inlet and outlet ports of the heat exchanger of a heater on the rear bulkhead of the engine compartment.

"Become attached" would be wiser to cut the hoses to prevent accidental damage to the pipes.

5. Release of the engine compartment bulkhead rubber bushing tube heat exchanger heating pipes.

6. If appropriate, disconnect the vehicle refrigeration line from the evaporator coil of the air conditioner, remove the rubber grommet.

When you unplug the refrigerator lines, always wear protective goggles!

7. Release the fixing collar and disconnect a drive cable flap control coolant heat exchanger heater. Release the cable from the engine compartment bulkhead, so it can be removed complete with housing heater.

8. Lower the steering column. And remove the dashboard (see chap. Body). Remove the strut reinforcement bar dashboard.

Before proceeding with recovery of the heat exchanger make sure that all locks are released.

9. Remove the outdoor air duct with steel reinforcing rods, disconnect the corresponding wiring and then remove the processor board assembly (PCM).

10. Remove the air hose from the bottom of the casing of the heat exchanger heater.

11. At a corresponding complete vehicle assembly, remove the casing of the evaporator coil, or located on the passenger side air duct (model without K / V).

12. Give bolts / nuts heater assembly to the engine compartment bulkhead. Disconnect the control cables.

13. Pull down the assembly of the heat exchanger and back - make sure that all the clips have been released. If necessary, slightly rotate the assembly in order to separate it from the upper arms.
14. Remove the heater assembly of the heat exchanger.

15. Assemble the heater and check that the operation of all the valves. Make the necessary corrections.
16. Install components made in the reverse order of their removal. Tighten the fasteners (screws / nuts) to the steering column support bracket with a force of 5 ÷ 18 Nm.
17. Fill the cooling system and bleed the air pockets (see chap. Adjustment and routine maintenance). Connect the battery and start the engine. Check the heating system components for signs of leaks and serviceability of functioning. Make recharge the air conditioning system.
