The traction control system (EDS)

Cars with anti-lock braking system (ABS) may additionally be equipped with traction control with braking of revolving wheels (locking differential electronically controlled).

Due to differential lock can not save quite acceptable driving characteristics (if at all possible in this situation) under adverse road conditions when towing, acceleration and driving in the mountains.

Differential lock automatically, ie without any driver intervention.

The control unit controls the differential lock using the sensor ABS wheel speed. If the road surface under one side of a vehicle slippery, whereby at a speed of 40 km / h there is a difference in the rotational speed of the drive wheels of approximately 100 r / min, then by braking a revolving wheel speed of wheels aligned, and on the other wheel by the action of Differential transferred increased traction.

This process has been some noticeable noise.

In order to most effectively take advantage of the differential lock, the driver should be in moving from place to coordinate the work of the accelerator pedal and clutch to the specific road conditions.

A warning

When accelerating on slippery surfaces, coatings, such as ice and snow, should be very careful to operate the accelerator pedal. The drive wheels can be rotated even against differential lock that will negatively affect the car's handling.

To brake the wheels braked too much heat, differential lock at extreme conditions is automatically disabled. The car remains functional and retains the same traction and dynamic qualities of the car is not equipped with traction control braking of a revolving wheel. For this reason, no indication is provided to disable the traction control braking of a revolving wheel.

As soon as the brake has cooled down, traction control with braking of revolving wheel is automatically turned on again.

When the ABS warning lamp lights up, it may also indicate a violation of the traction system. It should be as soon as possible to contact the service company Volkswagen.
