Preheating of diesel engines

Overview
To start a cold engine model with a diesel engine equipped with a preheating system comprising 4 glow plugs, glow plug control unit and a control lamp of system plugs.
Each vortex chamber mounted glow plug, which is arranged in a metal case an electrical heating element with a probe at one end and electrically connected to one another. When the candle is heated by the supplied fuel to the optimum temperature combustion. Supply voltage to the glow plugs is controlled by an electronic control unit diesel fuel injection system (ECU). The duration of the glow plugs (heating period) is controlled by the control unit (ECU), which controls the temperature of the engine via the coolant temperature sensor and changes the heating time in order to improve the working conditions of the engine. The indicator lamp preheating in the instrument panel goes out after heating, but power to the glow plugs continue to be fed until the engine is started. If attempts to start the engine there is no voltage on the glow plug is switched off.
After starting the engine glow plugs continue to work for some time, which helps to improve combustion at engine warming and to reduce exhaust emissions.
Preheating system of the diesel engine is activated when the ignition key is in position ?II?. However, on vehicles with engines AAZ system plugs for the motor after the opening and then closing the driver's door.

The control unit glow plugs
On engines 1Z, AHU and AFN preheating is controlled by ECU.
In the early models of the control unit of the preheating of the diesel engine is located under the instrument panel on the main unit of the relay. To gain access to the control glow plugs, remove the relevant sections finish dashboard.

Location of the control unit of the diesel engine glow plugs on later models
Fig. 3.75. Location of the control unit of the diesel engine glow plugs on later models

In later models, the control unit is located glow plugs in the engine compartment near the washer tank (Fig. 3.75).
Removing the procedure is as follows:
- Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery;
- Disconnect the wiring harness from the control unit;
-otvernite Fixing screws and lifting, remove the control unit from the bracket.
The installation of the control unit conduct in the reverse order of removal.
