Checking the pistons, piston rings and cylinder bore

The connecting rod-piston group
Fig. 2.89. Connecting rod and piston group 1 - the piston rings; 2 - piston; 3 - a lock ring; 4 - the connecting rod; 5 - bearing; 6 - a cover of a rod; 7 - a bolt 30 Nm + tighten 1/4 turn (90 ?); 8 - cylinder block; 9 - piston pin

Checking the thermal gap of piston rings

Checking the thermal gap of piston rings
Fig. 2.90. Checking the thermal gap of piston rings

Will drive the top ring, at right angles to the cylinder wall to the bottom of the cylinder bore at a distance of about 15 mm from its edge. To do this, use the piston without rings (Fig. 2.90).

Checking piston ring gap height

Checking piston ring gap height
Fig. 2.91. Checking piston ring gap height

Before checking, clean the annular groove (Fig. 2.91.).

Check the diameter of the cylinder

Measure the diameter of the piston
Fig. 2.92. Measure the diameter of the piston

Measure approximately 6 mm from the bottom edge, perpendicular to the piston pin axis (Fig. 2.92).
The maximum permissible deviation from the nominal size of 0.04 mm

The circuit measuring the diameter of the cylinder
Fig. 2.93. The circuit measuring the diameter of the cylinder

Swipe crosswise measurements at three locations in the transverse direction A and a longitudinal direction B (Fig. 2.93).
The maximum permissible deviation from the nominal size of 0.08 mm.

NOTE
It is forbidden to measure the diameter of the cylinder when the cylinder block is fixed to the retainer engine and gearbox VAS 6095, because in such a case may be incorrect results.

Dimensions of pistons and cylinders

Installation of pistons via funnel T10147
Only then can install pistons rings.

Special funnel T10147
Fig. 2.94. Special funnel T10147

NOTE
When used to install a new piston funnel T10147 first need to spend double piston with oiled piston rings through it and, if necessary, remove the chips appeared (Fig. 2.94).

Manually push the piston into a greased funnel T10147. The flat side of the piston crown must point to a pin of the crater (Fig. 2. 95).
Hold the funnel (with piston inserted into it) to the top end, push the plunger in, pushing his thumbs of both hands.
Push the plunger so that it extends above the lower edge of the funnel about 15 mm.

The scheme of installation of special funnel T10147
Fig. 2.95. The scheme of installation of special funnel T10147

Place piston in the corresponding cylinder. Zapf funnel (Fig. 2.95) should be towards the middle of the cylinder.
Place the funnel on the cylinder block and push the piston inside.
