Checking and changing the engine coolant

ATTENTION
Do not open the radiator cap when the engine is hot. The cooling system is under pressure, and opening the tube can lead to release a hot fluid which may cause severe burns. Do not open the radiator cap until then, until you can touch the radiator arm.
Engine coolant can damage the paint of the car.
Motor vehicle equipped with aluminum heat sink, so to avoid corrosion, it is necessary to apply the coolant based on ethylene glycol. Do not dilute concentrated antifreeze hard water, use only distilled water.

Recommended engine coolant
Use a 50 percent aqueous solution of coolant based on ethylene glycol. Engine coolant must be suitable for use with aluminum parts. Do not use extra additives and anticorrosive additives. To prevent freezing and corrosion coolant must have the correct concentration and type. Do not allow antifreeze concentration above 60% or below 35%, it may damage the cooling system.

Checking the coolant level

Expansion tank with a cooling liquid

The coolant level can be seen on the side wall of the plastic surge tank (Fig. 1.211). The coolant level should be between the ?LOW? (?low?) and ?FULL? (?full?) on the tank when the engine is cold. If the level is below the ?LOW? (?Low"), add a liquid. If the level is low, check for leaks in the cooling system. Check the coolant level frequently.
