Components of the airbag system

The main components of the SRS are:

- Driver's airbag in the steering wheel and the airbag for the front passenger seat, located in the instrument panel;
- Diagnostic system continuously monitors operation of the system SRS;
- A control lamp indicating a possible malfunction of the airbag;
- Alternate source of electricity needed in the event of a power failure in the main power supply.

If the vehicle is equipped with an airbag in the steering wheel and instrument panel has an inscription "SRS AIR BAG".

HOW DOES THE AIR BAG

Airbag is located in the center of the steering wheel. Passenger airbag is above the glovebox dashboard. If there will be a strong head-on collision, the airbag will open immediately and protect against serious injury. There are no hard-set speed at which the air bag will be revealed. Airbags are designed to disclose when a severe frontal impact. Additional security - SRS - reacts to the force of impact and its direction. These two factors determine whether the sensors will give electronic signal to the air bag. Disclosure of airbags dependent on a number of factors, particularly the speed of the car, the angle of impact, as well as compliance and mutual crushing vehicles or other objects with which the collision occurred.

Airbag fully revealed and developed over time, less than one-tenth of a second. Fast opening and folding allows the driver to maintain control of the vehicle. This is particularly important in the collisions, after which the car continues to move, and it is necessary that the driver continued to control the direction of movement, brakes, accelerator pedal and the gearbox. It is almost impossible to see how the theft is revealed during a collision. To the airbag during a violent collision provided reliable protection, it must be disclosed to lightning. Speed inflator air was set by the relevant laws in such a way as to reduce the risk of serious and life-threatening injuries and is a critical factor in the design of the system.

Thus, the very air bag can cause lung injury, such as a scratch on his face, bruises and fractures. However, there are conditions under which the steering wheel airbag can cause fatal injury, particularly when a person is too close to the steering wheel.

TO REDUCE THE RISK OF INJURY OR DEATH IN THE EVENT OF ACCIDENT having to sit as far away from STEERING WHEEL and is always in a comfortable position to control the car.

Injuries caused by airbag

Sit in the car as far as possible from the steering wheel, however, so that all the controls are within reach. Sitting very close to the steering wheel means that you are in danger of serious injury or death in the event of air bag deployment.

Never place any objects on the cover or cushion between themselves and the airbag. Due to the speed and force of an air bag deployment may happen that the projectiles can cause serious or fatal injury.

Noise and smoke

When the air bag is expanded, it emits a loud sound, and inside the car appear dust and smoke. This is - a normal phenomenon that occurs as a result of firing pyrotechnic cartridge airbags.

After air bag deployment due to inhalation of smoke and dust, must be felt tightness of breath.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AFTER COLLISION open doors and windows. YOU WILL reduce discomfort and prevent further inhalation of smoke and dust.

When the airbag is revealed, its filling elements in the steering wheel and dashboard are very hot. To avoid injury, do not touch immediately after the collision to the metal parts in the vicinity of the airbag cover.

The importance of proper boarding of passengers in the front seat

The front passenger airbag is much more than a driver airbag and opens with a much greater force. It can be serious or even fatal injure the passenger sitting in the wrong position and neprist?gnutogo seat belt. The passenger must as far as possible to push back the seat and lean on the seat backrest.

The reason because of which the passenger in the front seat must be fastened, is the one that almost every collision is preceded by sharp braking, tending to move the person forward. If the passenger is not fastened, it may be unfolding right in front of an airbag or will even touch it. In this case, the passenger can cause serious or even fatal injury.

Because airbags can never place the child seat BACK in the direction of the front passenger seat. There is a significant risk of serious or even fatal injury to the child's unfolding airbag on the right front seat. It is also strongly recommended not to install in the front passenger seat child seat facing forwards. If you still need to install it there, move the right front seat back as far as possible. In the event of air bag deployment child sitting incorrectly or improperly fastened, it can cause serious or even fatal injury.

SIDE AIR BAGS

In the car-mounted side airbags for each front seat. Their purpose is to provide additional protection for the driver and / or passenger in an accident compared to the protection provided by safety belts alone. Disclosure side airbag occurs only in side impacts, depending on the strength, direction, and speed of the impact site. Side airbags are not disclosed at all side impact.

For maximum protection, side airbags in side collisions the driver and front passenger, should be securely fastened seat belts, and the back of the seat should be upright. The driver's hands should be placed on the steering wheel in position 3 and 9 o'clock. Hands and arms of the passenger must be placed in the designated places for them.

Do not use extra mats on the seats. Using the pads of seats can reduce the effectiveness of the air bag system. Do not place any objects or equipment near the air bag.

Do not apply excessive force to the side surfaces of the front seats. Do not place any objects on the airbags or between the airbags and sitting people.

Do not place any objects (an umbrella, bag, bag, etc.) between the front door and the front seat. These objects can be dangerous and cause personal injury during the opening of the side airbags.

Use only KIA original parts for repair or replacement of damaged upholstery. The customer or dealer to install on the front seat covers, or when changing upholstery aftermarket parts KIA should be warned about the dangers of using the car with side airbags, the factory closed not material.

When you contact an authorized KIA dealer or other competent service, verify that the vehicle is equipped with side air bags on each of the front seats.
