Engine start

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Make sure the parking brake is on.
Models with manual transmission
2. Fully depress the clutch pedal and gearshift lever, set to NEUTRAL. During engine start-up keep the clutch pedal fully depressed. For some models, the starter will not operate if the clutch pedal is not fully depressed.
Models with automatic transmission
2. Move the shift lever dial to "P" (parking). Fully depress the brake pedal.
You can also start up the engine when the shift lever is in the mode "N" (neutral).
3. Turn the ignition key to the START position and hold it in this position until the engine is not empty (but not longer than 10 seconds), then release the key. At extremely low ambient temperatures below -18 ? C or if the engine is not running for a few days before leaving the engine warm up without depressing the accelerator pedal. Regardless of whether the engine is warm or cold start when not depress the accelerator pedal.

A warning

If during movement stalled the engine in the model with an automatic transmission, and the car continues to move at the same time, do not attempt to move the shift lever dial to "P" (parking). If it is possible for the traffic conditions on the road, move the shift lever dial to "N" (neutral), and then turn the ignition switch to START (Ignition) and try again to start up the engine.

Not to start a cold engine (coolant temperature below 0 ? C)

Difficulties in the operation of the engine can be caused by an overflow of cylinders (cylinders is too much fuel). In this case, do the following:

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Make sure the parking brake is on.
Models with manual transmission
2. Fully depress the clutch pedal and gear shift lever set to "Neutral". During engine start-up keep the clutch pedal fully depressed.
Models with automatic transmission
2. Move the lever mode dial to "P" (Park) or "N" (neutral). Fully depress the brake pedal.
3. Prior to the stop, press the accelerator pedal and keep it in this position.
4. Turn the ignition key to the START position and hold it in this position (maximum 10). At the same time hold down the accelerator pedal. In this way, pump out excess fuel from the engine.
5. Once the engine is empty, the engine speed of the engine will increase dramatically. This immediately release the accelerator pedal and the ignition key.
6. If the engine has not yet been set off, after turning the starter release the accelerator pedal.
7. Try again to start the car without pressing the accelerator pedal by turning the ignition switch to START (maximum of 10).

Not to let the hot engine:

If difficulties arise when starting a hot engine (repeated attempts without pressing the accelerator pedal is not successful), do the following:

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Make sure the parking brake is on.
Models with manual transmission
2. Fully depress the clutch pedal and gear shift lever set to "Neutral". During engine start-up keep the clutch pedal fully depressed.
Models with automatic transmission
2. Move the shift lever dial to "P" (Park) or "N" (neutral). Fully depress the brake pedal.
3. Press until about half way the accelerator pedal, turn the ignition key to the START position and hold it in this position (maximum 10).
4. After starting the engine run at idle speed for about 10 seconds, and then you can start moving.

A warning

Do not operate the starter for longer than 10 seconds. If the engine then stall or do not start up, before the next turning on the starter and wait for 5-10 seconds. Overloading or improper use of the starter may damage it.

For some models, the starter will not work if:

- Models with automatic transmission mode is not "P" (Park) or "N" (neutral);

- Models with manual transmission is not depressed the clutch pedal completely.

If the engine has not run for a long time, when it is started can be heard the sound of emitted by the valve lifters. The sound should stop when the engine warms up to operating temperature. If the knock did not stop, the car must pass a technical inspection by an authorized Kia dealer.
