Airbags - general information and precautions

general information

Understanding the elements of systems of additional safety (SRS) and a description of the principles of their operation are given in Section System of additional safety (SRS) of the Head Controls and operation receptions.

This chapter provides some additional information on the maintenance and diagnostics of the main component of SRS - airbag.

The system consists of a framed self-powered electronic diagnostic unit (ADU) incorporating the sensor directed overloads, modules of airbags for driver and front passenger, and a self-loop feedback loop.

Schematic layout of the airbag system (for models without knee airbag)

1 - Passenger Air Bag
2 - diagnostic electronic unit (ADU)
3 - The driver's front airbag

4 - contact with the drum
5 - the DLC

A necessary condition for the activation of the airbag module is placed in the operation of ADU sensor directed overloads designed for frontal impact, causing an overload value not below a certain threshold.

Self-diagnostic system provides short-term activation of SRS warning lamp on the dashboard of the car when the ignition switch to ON. In the absence of any irregularity in the survey elements of the lamp should go out after about 6 seconds. Disclaimer off warning lamp, as well as its operation while driving indicates a fault detection of any component of the SRS. To test the system and eliminate the cause of failure of the car should be driven away on a car repair shop.

Safety measures

If necessary, removal of the steering wheel, as well as serving radio or other located near the dashboard components try to avoid disconnection of electrical connectors of wiring circuit SRS, - security extra wiring system ? easily distinguished by a bright yellow color of isolation.

In no case do not connect any of chain SRS diagnostic equipment! When servicing all located close to the airbag components are always pre- Disconnect SRS (see. Section Disable SRS).

When servicing the airbags do not forget to wear protective goggles and rubber gloves.

On the surface of the airbag may be present plaque sodium hydroxide (NaOH). Try to avoid contact with the surface of the module moisture and flammable liquids. Traces of sodium hydroxide hit on his hands or eyes, immediately rinse with plenty of water.

Connecting the meter to the connection terminals of the connector modules airbags careful not to damage the latest probes - the right thing to enter the test leads from the rear of the connector.

In no case do not disassemble the components of SRS! Accidental airbag deployment carries a risk of serious injury.

Before connecting the electrical wiring to the ADU make sure of reliability of fixing the latter on the regular place.

Always keep the removed unused airbag module facing away from you!

Always put Removing the Face-up, make sure that the surface near the bench remove the module were not any tools or other foreign objects.

Disposal triggered airbag modules must also be carried out in compliance with local laws to protect the environment.
