Replacement of protective covers and check the status of SHRUS

In identifying the defect status of the associated protective cover CV joints should be carefully studied. Often on the basis of the exchange can be purchased fully restored assembly drive shafts, which greatly simplifies the situation and reduces the time required. Before proceeding to dismantle components, perform marketing, finding out prices for the necessary parts. Compare their costs for the purchase of remanufactured assemblies.

The shops of automobile accessories can be found protective covers for SHRUS split design. Installation of covers does not require dismantling of the shaft from the vehicle, which in principle is very convenient. However, the drafters of the present Management recommend to remove all the trees to check the condition of constant velocity joints and filling them with fresh grease.

Remove the drive shaft (see. Section Removal and installation of power shafts).

Inner CV Joints

STRIPPING

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Remove the banding fastening of a protective cover and slide along the shaft of the latter, providing easy access to the hinge.

2. Mark the position of the inner ring and cage pivot assembly relative to the shaft.

3. Having hooked a small screwdriver, remove the hinge housing inner retaining ring.

4. Remove the cover from the bearing assembly.

5. Use the special pliers, remove the retaining ring groove landing on a pin of the drive shaft.

6. Remove the inner ring of the bearing with the shaft journal. When "from sticking" splines saturate components penetrating oil and gently hammer Tap the assembly through a drift brass.
7. Use a screwdriver to release the wooden block and the ball bearings from the separator, - try not to damage the internal surfaces of the latter. remove the separator.

8. Remove the retaining ring fastening the inner ring. Remove the protective cover of the hinge shaft.

Checking the Status

PERFORMANCE ORDER

Rinse the components of the hinge in a solvent, completely clearing them from the traces of old grease. Assess the inner ring and the cage is.

ASSEMBLY

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Wrap the splines on the shaft journal layer tape, then plant the protective cover of the hinge shaft. Remove the cling film and put on the cover binding band of larger diameter.

2. Put on the shaft journal bearing cage assembly (smaller diameter side of the central portion of the shaft).

3. Snap on the regular place retaining ring lock the inner ring, then plant the last pin on the shaft, ensuring correct alignment caused during the dismantling of components of landing labels.

4. Fix the bearing inner race locking ring, having tracked reliability of landing of the latter in the receiving groove on the pin shaft - holder does not have to move along the shaft.
5. Slide the cage on the inner bearing race (again track correctness of combination of landing labels) Fill in the box cage ball bearings.

For the time of fixing the pre-assembly of the balls dip them in grease packing CV joints.

6. Type in the outer ring of the bearing lubricant and protective cover CV joint (lubrication usually comes bundled with a new cover). The same grease separator tamp cavity and the inner ring.

7. Fill the bearing housing side of the hinge and install the inner lock ring.

8. Remove excess grease from the groove for planting a cover on the outside of the cage. Tuck the edge of the cover (from the smaller diameter) in the mounting groove on the shaft body. The second end cover to the housing SHRUS pull and move the assembly, seeking to eliminate unnecessary strain rubber.

9. Make the adjustment of the length of the landing of a protective cover of the hinge. hooked blunt edge of the cover with a screwdriver, line up the pressure under it - try not to break cover.

10. Secure the cover banding.

11. Establish a new lock ring on the internal end of the trunnion assembly SHRUS.
12. Install the drive shaft on the vehicle (see. Section Removal and installation of power shafts).

The outer CV joint

REMOVAL

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Release bandage tapes of fastening of a protective cover. Remove the cover from the hinge assembly.
2. Hold the assembly of the shaft in a vise with soft jaws and bring down the hinge with a hammer with brass striker. Knocking the hinge, remove the retaining ring of the bearing inner race.

3. Thoroughly rinse the hinge in a solvent and allow it to dry, if possible, with the use of compressed air. The outer CV joint disassembly not lie down, which is why its cleaning and packing may take quite some time.

Checking the Status

PERFORMANCE ORDER

Bend the outer CV joint housing at an angle to the axis of the assembly so as to expose the surfaces of the inner ring, cage and ball bearings. Please rate the degree of wear and deformation of the components. Defective joint must be replaced.

ASSEMBLY

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Pull the shaft CV joint protective cover (fitted splined shaft journal is wise to pre-wrap a protective layer of adhesive tape). By planting cover, remove the adhesive tape.

2. Install the retaining ring lock the inner ring of the bearing.

3. Firmly tamp the joint cavity with fresh grease.

4. braced shaft vertically to the surface of the workbench, it zastuchite hinge assembly with a hammer through a wooden block.

5. Put on a regular place protective cover and tamp it became a lubricant. Adjust the length of the landing cover. Align the pressure and secure the cover with new banding.
