Charge system - the general information and precautions

Among the components of the system include a charge alternator mounted on the rear wall of the voltage regulator, control lamp / battery indicator, battery, protective fuse, and wiring connecting these components. Charge system supplies electric power to the ignition system, lighting and signaling devices, radios and other power consumers. The generator is driven by a belt drive from the crankshaft pulley and is mounted in front of the engine. For more information on the electrical connections of the system components can be gleaned from the charge circuit diagrams (see chap. Onboard electric equipment).

The objective is to limit the voltage regulator produced by the generator voltage within the specified limits. Regulator prevents overloading circuits and other unpleasant phenomena associated with surges. All models are equipped with a built-in voltage regulator, in case of failure, all of which is subject to replacement generator assembly.

Charge system does not need regular maintenance. However, you should periodically check the condition of the drive belt of the generator, batteries, wiring and connecting its terminal connections (see chap. Adjustment and routine maintenance).

Mounted in the instrument panel warning lamp turns on the charge briefly when the ignition key to the START position and should go out immediately after the engine starts. Refusal of a lamp-off indicates a fault in the system charge. On some models, the dashboard mounted voltmeter further, allowing the driver to timely monitor board voltage deviation from the norm. When you exit voltmeter of range should be tested of charge (see. Section Checking the status of the charge).

Fuse is a short length of wire placed in isolation mounted in the main plait of electroconducting engine compartment. The total conductor cross-section of the conductor paste is several times smaller than the electrical circuit in which it is included, which guarantees reliable protection from overloading the latter.

When docking terminal connections of electric circuits equipped with alternator car should take special precautions:

a) If the wiring connecting the battery to the generator in any case, do not allow violations of polarity;
b) Before applying under body repair arc welding disconnect the wiring from the terminals of the generator and the battery;
c) In no case do not make the engine run while connected to the battery charger;
d) Always before you charge the battery from an external power supply, unplug it from both wires (at first negative);
e) Try not to allow hands, hair and clothing away from free contact with the rotating drive belt produced by the generator when the engine is running checks;
f) Remember that the generator is connected directly to the battery and overload and short circuit can cause inflammation of the wiring and cause a fire;
g) Before cleaning a steam generator of the engine compartment, wrap in a plastic bag, which should then be securely fastened rubber tires.
