Check and replacement of wires of the battery

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Inspect the battery wires along their entire length for signs of mechanical damage, cracks and burnouts insulation and corrosion. Do not forget that a violation of the quality of the electrical connection of contact plugs can lead to difficulties when starting the engine and reduce the efficiency of its return.

2. Check terminal clamps wires for cracks, signs of loss of copper veins and corrosion. Presence accumulated under the insulation layer near the terminal lugs white powdery deposits indicates the development of corrosion and the need to replace the wire. Check the battery terminals and fastening clips on them of tips of wires for signs of deformation, easing of bolts and corrosion.

3. Always disconnect the negative wire from the battery first and last connected. Be sure to disconnect the negative cable, even if the replacement is subject to a positive one.

If installed on the car stereo is equipped with a security code before to disconnect the battery make sure that have a correct combination for equipment introduction in action!

4. Disconnect from the battery old wires (at first negative), then "walk" for each of them to the opposite end and disconnect from the traction relay of a starter (positive) and the ground terminal (negative). Try to remember the route of both wires to comply with them when new. Make sure that the replacement wire match by size taken from the car. Take the wire to be replaced with the store as a sample. An extremely important factor is that the design meets the wire clamps form the connection terminals on the car.

Wires can be easily distinguished from each other by the color of isolation, always black and red have negative from positive. In addition, the positive wire usually has a larger cross-section.

5. A wire brush smooth out a carving on the connecting terminals of the traction relay and ground. After removing all traces of corrosion slightly grease the threads of acid-free Vaseline to prevent corrosion development in the future.
6. Connect a wire to the terminal of the traction relay / weight, tighten the fixing nut / bolt.
7. Before connecting the new wire to the terminal of the battery, make sure that it reaches up to free her without undue tension. Carefully smooth pole battery terminals, then lightly grease them with acid-free Vaseline.
8. First of all, always connect the positive cable to the battery, then the negative.
