Start of the engine from an external source

Start of the engine from an external source
Fig. 1.191. Start of the engine from an external source

The battery pack used as an additional source must have a rated voltage of 12 V. If you are not sure, do not use a battery to start the engine.
To start the car with the discharged battery from an external source is exactly follow the instructions given below.
1. If the battery is used as an additional source, mounted on another vehicle, make sure the cars do not touch each other.
2. Turn off all unnecessary lighting and accessories on both vehicles.

3. Connect the connecting cables to the terminals of the battery shown in the figure at 1,192 fine. First connect one end of the connecting wire to the positive (+) terminal of the discharged battery. Then connect the other end of the wire to the positive (+) terminal of the battery on another vehicle (used as an additional source). Then, using another connecting cable, connect one end to the negative (-) terminal of the battery of another car (used as an additional source). Then connect the other end of the wire to the engine block of the car with the discharged battery in a place that is farthest from the battery. Do not connect the jumper cable to the moving parts of the engine.
4. Start the engine of the car with the battery, which is used as an additional source, and allow the engine to idle for a few minutes. This will ensure full recharge of the battery. During the start of the engine, keep the engine speed of the car, the battery is used as an additional power source, at 2000 min -1.
5. Start the car using a normal operation for starting the engine. After the engine has started, do not remove the connecting wires and let the engine run at idle or at 2000 rev. / Min for several minutes.
6. Carefully remove the connecting cables in the reverse order of their installation. First remove the connection cable to the negative terminal, and then - with the positive.
