Removing and installing rear brake pads / brake drum



Cars up to 9/89 MY. and models of "universal"

1 - brake drum
2 - pin and spring attachment
3 - Front and rear brake pads

Remove the parts in order of their numbering. Individual elements of the right and left brakes differ from each other, they must not be interchanged.

Withdrawal

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Change the position of the disc relative to the hub wheel to balance the wheel could be established in former position.
  2. Loosen the wheel nuts standing on the ground of the car.
  3. Raise the rear of the vehicle.
  4. Remove the wheel.
  5. Release the handbrake.
  1. Straighten the lock plate with a hammer and chisel and weaken the hub nut.

On the left side of the hub nut has a left-hand thread, it is necessary to loosen rotate to the right (clockwise).


  1. Remove the brake drum, while keeping an eye to falling out bearing. If the brake drum can not be removed, completely loosen the cable of a manual brake.
  1. Before removing the return spring is recommended to mark their mounting position. This facilitates the installation.
  2. Strong push clamping spring and turn 90. When you hold the pin on the rear brake shield. Likewise, to remove the pin on the other block.
  3. Fold the front connector and pull out the spring -4 and -5.
  1. Remove both brake pads.

When removing the brake pads do not press the brake pedal, otherwise from the wheel brake cylinder piston will pop up. Installation of the piston, see. Section Repair of the wheel brake cylinder.

  1. Connect with a screwdriver cable of a manual brake adjustment device. Remove the adjusting device.
  1. Remove -5- boot on the wheel brake cylinder.

You do not have to pull out the piston. Check whether wet for anther. If necessary, repair the wheel cylinder.

  1. Fit boot on the wheel cylinder.

Setting

Be sure to replace all four brake pads, even if deterioration borders were reached only one. Use the pads of the same brand. Clean the brake drum and brake shield vacuum cleaner or alcohol. If the wheel brake cylinder is wet, replace it. Lightly grease the adjusting device of MoS 2. Elongated drums with grooves, always handle both drum. Brake drums can bore to a maximum diameter of 201 mm.


PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Minor irregularities and remove rust with fine sandpaper.
  1. Clear the six surfaces of contact between the brake pads and brake shield before installing the pad and cover with a thin layer of heat-resistant lubricant, it is best to high temperature copper paste.
  1. Attach the spring to the adjustment device and the brake pads.
  1. Before installing the brake pad to move a segment of the adjusting device, as it does not conform to the brake shield. Due to this distance pads mounted on the smallest value.   2. Set adjustment device to the lowest adjustable height.
  3. Install the brake drum and screw the new hub nut.
  4. Adjust bearing play hub.

Lock the nut after adjustment, see chap. Suspension and steering system.

  1. Screw the wheel, at the same time follow the label on the hub. Lower the car and tighten the wheel nuts crosswise with torque of 100 Nm.
  2. Adjust the main gap rear brakes a few clicks of the brake pedal. In the brake audible clicks.
  3. Adjust the handbrake.
  4. Perform a test braking on average speed on the free road transport.

  4. Remove the wheel.
  5. Unscrew bolt -1- on the brake drum.
  6. Release the hand brake and remove the brake drum from the hub. If the brake drum can not be removed because of the break-in, must first be completely loosen the cable on the lever of a manual brake.
  7. Before removing the return spring is recommended to mark their mounting position. This facilitates their installation.
  8. Disconnect the upper and lower return spring with a screwdriver or pliers.
  9. Strongly overcome compression spring and turn through 90 ?�. When the pin is released at the same time keep the brakes behind the backboard. Likewise, to remove the pin to the other brake shoe.
  10. Disconnect the return spring from the control device.
  11. Tilt the brake pads out and remove them.

When removing the brake pads do not press the brake pedal, otherwise the pistons jump out of the wheel brake cylinder. Insert pistons. See Section Repair wheel brake cylinder.

  1. Disconnect the cable from the hand brake control device -11- with a screwdriver. Remove the adjuster.
  2. Remove -5- boot on the wheel brake cylinder.

The piston should not be drawn. Check for moisture for anther. If necessary, replace the wheel cylinder.


  1. Set boot on the wheel cylinder.

Setting

Be sure to replace all four brake pads, even if deterioration borders were reached only one. Use the pads of the same brand. Clean the brake drum and brake shield vacuum cleaner or alcohol. If the wheel brake cylinder is wet, replace it. Lightly grease the adjusting device of MoS 2. Elongated drums with grooves, always handle both drum.
