Installing the cylinder head

Location dowel pins on the cylinder block (engine M 110)

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Clean the surface of the cylinder head and block, and put a new lining on the block pins. Do not use the sealing compound.
  1. Install the 1st piston at TDC and check that the TDC mark on the camshaft are aligned and that the top of the camshaft cams of 1st cylinder have been directed upwards.

Engine M 110

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Put two pieces of wood on the front and back of the napkin.
  2. Ask the assistant to insert the chain through the hole in the cylinder head, and keep right inside the chain guide, then lower cylinder head on wooden blocks.
  3. Remove the front bar and the lower cylinder head on the pin, and then in the same way lower the rear part of the head to the back pin.
  4. Dip the head bolts to the oil and insert them into place with the washers.
  1. Tighten the bolts in three or four stages to the specified torque in the order shown in the figure.
  1. Ensure free rotation of the two camshafts.
  2. Adjust the side guides in the cylinder head, and align the holes, and then install the locking pins with a hammer, ensuring the correct position of the chain.
  3. Using a piece of wire guide lower sprocket engages the chain. Lubricate the axis of the bearing and insert it into a star with a hammer. Remove the wire.
  4. Insert and tighten the plug cap. Put a new gasket if necessary.
  5. Slide the camshaft back and put an asterisk and spacers; Make sure that the chain is correctly positioned.
  1. Insert the bolts and spacers in the camshafts and tighten them by hand.

Tighten the bolt of the camshaft (the engine M 110)

  1. Make sure that the TDC mark on vibration damper aligned with the arrow pointer valve timing and that the TDC mark on the timing gear and camshaft housing and aligned.
  1. Place the upper guide rod into the bearing of the camshaft and the hammer pin hammer.
  1. Inserting a metal rod into the hole of the distribution chain tensioner, drown guide rod to pull the chain, then check again the combination of TDC marks.
  1. Tensioners earlier versions must be disassembled and adjusted. Do not fully tighten the stopper spring tension, be limited to one or two turns. In more recent designs disassemble the tensioner, then reassemble it during installation.
  1. Reinstall the parts tensioner and tighten the plug and the outer ring.
  1. Rotate the crankshaft two full turns and check the alignment of TDC marks.
  1. When working alternately on each camshaft sprocket lock with a metal rod, passed in one of the holes, and tighten the bolt.

Installation guide gear (motor M 110)

  1. Put the radiator, if required by the design.
  2. When installing the valves alternately turn a cranked shaft so that the top cam lobe facing up, dip in oil tappet cam and install it, pressing down valve. Hook the spring of the clamp and slide the pusher cam with a screwdriver.
  3. Adjust the valve clearances.
  4. Put the valve cover with a new gasket and tighten the nuts.
  5. Put the cover of the thermostat with a new gasket and tighten bolts.
  6. Put the bypass hose from the water pump to the thermostat housing and tighten the clamps.
  7. Install oil return pipe with new gasket and tighten the bolt.
  8. Place the front cover with new gasket and tighten bolts.
  9. If required by the design, set the compressor and hydraulic pump.

Engine M 123

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Ask the assistant to insert a chain up through the hole in the cylinder head and move up the chain guide. Then lower on the cylinder head gasket, centering on the dowel pins.
  2. Dip the head bolts to the oil and put them together with the washers.
  3. Tighten the bolts in two steps to the specified torque in the order shown in the figure. Ensure free rotation of the cam shaft. Do not forget the two bolts in the opening for the chain.
  4. Insert the vent pipe between the water pump and cylinder head, insert and tighten the bolts overflow with new washers.
  1. Make sure that the TDC mark on vibration damper aligned with the arrow pointer valve timing and that TDC on the camshaft is aligned with the mark on the front of the rack.

The arrow shows the TDC mark on the camshaft (the engine M 123)

  1. Enter the camshaft sprocket engages with the chain properly installing the woodruff key. Then slide it to the camshaft. Insert the bolt and spacer and tighten the bolt by hand.
  2. Pass the metal bar through the hole for chain tensioner, press down on the guide to pull the chain and again make sure that the TDC is still aligned.
  1. Install the distribution chain tensioner casing, then insert the plug and tighten the plug.

Installation of hydraulic piston distribution chain (engine M 123)

  1. Lock the camshaft sprocket with a metal rod, passed through one of the holes, then tighten the bolt to the specified torque.
  2. On vehicles with automatic transmission put in place between the right strut suspension and the engine cylinder head.
  3. Replace the cover of the thermostat with a new gasket and tighten bolts.
  4. Replace the bypass hose between water pump and thermostat housing and tighten the clamps.
  5. Adjust the valve clearances (see. Check and adjust clearance in the valve mechanism in the engine M 123 and M 110).
  6. Replace the cylinder head cover with a new gasket and tighten the nuts.
  7. Install the auxiliary units.
  8. Lightly oil dipstick tube sealing paste before extrude it into a casing of the pallet.
