Removing the camshaft
Engine M 123
| - If the engine has not yet been removed from the car, no need to remove the cylinder head, while the camshaft sprocket should still be removed. First remove the spring with a cam lever and lower alternately each valve so that the cam follower removed, turning the crankshaft of the engine to the top of cam lobe facing up.
- Remove the thrust washer from the front end of the camshaft.
- With internal hexagonal socket wrench, unscrew the bolt and the bearing blocks with the shaft, and the oil pipe from the cylinder head. If necessary, release bearing wooden mallet.
- Remove the camshaft by moving it back from the legs and, if necessary, remove the oil pipe bolts.

| - If the engine has not yet been removed from the car, the cylinder head should not be removed, but a cam and sprocket must be removed. If you want to remove only the right camshaft, left cam drive mechanism can be left at the front of the camshaft.
- Remove the bolts from the camshaft and the cylinder head in the reverse order to that shown in the figure, and remove the case from the cylinder head. Do not remove the seven screws indicated by the arrows.
- Remove the screws from the back covers of the housing.
- Remove the thrust washer from the front of the camshaft.
- Remove the camshafts from the case.
- Remove the bearings from the front of the case.
