Check, adjustment of a tension and replacement drivers belts

Belts, belts or V-shaped type, located on the front side of the engine and drive the auxiliary units. It is necessary to periodically check the condition and tension of belts.
Cars are equipped with a specially designed seat that need to be replaced only by straps of the same type.
The number of straps used on the vehicle depends on the installed equipment. Belts are used to drive the generator, power steering pump and air conditioning compressor. Depending on the arrangement of pulleys one belt can be used to drive several units.

Location and place (a) measuring deflection alternator drive belt
Fig. 2.7. Location and place (a) measuring deflection alternator drive belt: 1 - a pulley of the generator; 2 - adjusting screw

Location belts on the engine shown in Fig. 2.7, 2.8, 2.9, 2.10.

Turning the crankshaft of the engine, turn the V-ribbed belt for a few revolutions and visually check its status. Only in this way can be seen all surfaces V-ribbed belt, as the belt is often only one, but a deep crack that checking can be placed exactly on the pulley. In the presence of defects immediately replace the V-ribbed belt.
The tension of each belt is checked by measuring the deflection by pressing the center of the belt between the pulleys (at the points indicated by arrows in Fig. 2.7, 2.8, 2.9, 2.10). Press firmly on the strap thumb ruler and measure a belt deflection.
Tension (and weakening) of the belt tensioning mechanism is regulated. Mount each unit and the motor is adjusting the pivot bolt to be release to move the unit. Belt tension power steering and air conditioning compressor is regulated only by turning the adjusting bolt idler pulley. Before adjustment, loosen the lock nut idler pulley and tighten it after adjustment.
After loosening the screws, move the unit away from the engine to increase the belt tension or to the side to the engine to loosen its tension. Keeping the unit in this position, check the belt tension. If the tension is normal, carefully tighten the two screws, then re-check the tension. To move the machine when adjusting the tension mounting, you can use a spatula. Use it very carefully so as not to damage the unit or the movable element that is used as a stop.
To replace the old belt tension, loosen and remove it from pulleys. If two of the belt, you must first remove the engine farthest from the engine belt, even if the replacement is not required. Install the new belt and adjust its tension, bearing in mind that the tension of the new belt is different from the tension that was in use. After a short run of the car re-check belt tension.
