Ignition System Check



A WARNING
On some models, adjusting ignition timing is obligatory to perform work on an information plate to reduce emissions. The plate contains information on the preliminary operations that must be completed before adjusting the ignition timing as well as the necessary technical data.

Check and adjust the ignition timing
Perform the preliminary operations for installing the ignition timing shown on the label VECI, located under the hood.

Around the crankshaft pulley attaching plate with a pointer, which is designed to align them with the pulley mounting tags. The label "T" corresponds to the top dead center (TDC). The plate is provided with a dial indicator with 2 ?� increments and adjusting label corresponding to the model of your car. In the absence of guide mark, count away from the label "T" required number of degrees before TDC, as indicated on the label VECI, and mark this location on the plate. On some car models instead of the plates is a pointer to the ignition timing and the two notches on the pulley instead of one (Fig. 2.21). To set ignition timing, do not use a recess "Top" (VMT).
In order to mark on the pulley it was clearly visible when adjusting ignition timing, mark it with chalk or paint.
Start up the engine, warm it up to normal operating temperature and stop. Turn off all electrical consumers and remove the electrical connector from the radiator fan.
With the ignition off, guided by the manufacturer's instructions, connect the strobe to the high-voltage wire of the spark plug of the first cylinder.
Start up the engine, direct stroboscope light on the mark on the crankshaft pulley and determine how timing mark is aligned notch on the pulley.

If the seizure is not aligned with the desired mark, loosen the bolt of the distributor of ignition and turn it up as long as the recess is aligned with the desired mark (Fig. 2.22).
Tighten the bolt of the distributor of ignition and re-check the ignition timing.
Stop the engine and disconnect a stroboscope. Connect the spark plug of the first cylinder and the other elements that have been disconnected.

Inspection and replacement of spark plugs
With compressed air, clean the spark that will eliminate the ingress of dirt into the cylinder of the engine after a reversing of candles.

A WARNING
Manufacturers do not regulate the replacement interval spark plugs, only point to the need for regular inspection. In practice, the replacement of spark plugs should be carried out for maintenance even if the candle is in good condition.

Remove the spark plug.
If you need to replace the spark plugs should be used only approved engine spark plug.
In appearance, remove the spark plug can be estimated condition of the engine. Clean, white, without a touch of spark plug insulator indicates too lean fuel mixture. Before connecting the high-voltage wires to the spark plug, check its condition.
Turning, connect the tip of the high-voltage wire to a new spark plug, it must be securely fixed to the spark plug. Ensure that the wire is held at a distance from the exhaust manifold.
Similarly, replace the rest of the spark plugs, replacing them one by one, so as not to confuse the high-voltage wires.

High-voltage wires should be checked every time you install spark plugs. Start visual inspection with the engine running. In a darkened garage start up the engine and watch each wire. If you find an internal short in the wire will be visible electrical arc or spark at the injury site. In the presence of an electric arc wire replacement.
Let the engine cool down and then check the cap and distributor rotor ignition.
Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
To avoid confusion, one Remove and inspect high-voltage wires.
Pull up and turning at the same time, remove the tip from the high-voltage wire from the spark plug.
Do not remove the cap by pulling directly behind the high-voltage wire.
Check inside tip for signs of corrosion, which is a white solid powder.
Replace the tip with a high-voltage wire, pushing it while turning to a clear fixation.
Clean cloth, wipe the high-voltage wire along the entire length, ridding it of dirt and grease. Check the wire at no burn-through, cracks and other damage. Do not bend much wire as the inner conductor may be broken. Ohmmeter measure the resistance of the center conductor in each wire. Nominal Impedance 16 ohm / m.
Check the inside of the dust cover for the absence of corrosion. Reconnect the high-voltage wire.
Similarly, check the status of the remaining high-voltage wires.
Remove the screws and remove the ignition distributor. Inside the cover, check for cracks, coal paths, burn-through and unreliable contacts.
Remove the two screws and remove the ignition distributor rotor. Check rotor for cracks, coal paths, burning lateral and central electrodes.
If there is any damage, replace the cap and distributor rotor ignition. It is recommended when replacing the high-voltage wires and replace the cap and distributor rotor ignition.
Check the centrifugal regulator ignition timing for damage, corrosion and damaged springs. Hold the shaft of the distributor of ignition, turn the housing of the centrifugal regulator and ensure that the weights regulator moved smoothly, and spring tension occurs in the opposite direction.
Replace the cover of the distributor of ignition, then connect the wire to the negative terminal of the battery.

A WARNING
It is important to replace the wires one by one and mark their point of attachment, as each wire ensures the correct order of cylinders.
