Check and adjustment of turns of idling

It called idling speed engine speed when the accelerator pedal is released (for example, when stopping at traffic lights). This parameter is critical from the point of view of efficiency of return of the engine and operation of many of its subsystems. Before the measurement of RPM, perform the following checks:

a) Check the air permeability of the filter element;
b) Check the air intake tract for signs of leaks;
c) Make sure that there are no signs of loss of vacuum through vacuum hoses;
d) Check the battery condition and serviceability of functioning of system of ignition including ignition timing (see. Chapter Settings and maintenance);
e) Check the fuel pressure (see. Section Check of serviceability of functioning of the fuel pump, the fuel pressure measurement);
f) Check the compression pressure in the cylinders (see. Part of the total overhaul of the engine the Head of engine);
g) Check the condition and EGR system EVAP (see chap. Engine management);
h) Check the adjustment of the TPS (see chap. Engine management);
i) Check the on-board self-diagnostic system for the presence of the stored fault codes (see chap. Engine management).

CHECK

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. In accordance with the manufacturer's instructions, connect the tachometer to the engine manual.

On models since 1995 vol., Which uses the ignition system without a distributor for connecting the tachometer has a special connector that is included in the wiring harness to the right of the engine compartment.

2. Securely cock a lay brake and prop chock rear wheels. Put the transmission in position "P" or "N". Turn off all electrical consumers. On models 1993 and 1994 Vol. Remove the access panel to the PCM (see chap. Engine management).
3. Start the engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature. Set the engine speed to 2000 rev / min, three times quickly lift it up to a value of 3000 rev / min, then let the engine for about one minute to idle.
4. On models 1993 and 1994 Vol. remove the selector dial to the wall of the PCM to fully clockwise (see chap. Engine management).
5. On models since 1995 Vol. Stop the engine and disconnect the wiring from the throttle position sensor (TPS) (see chap. Engine management). Restart the engine and raise three times the frequency of rotation to a value more than 3000 rev / min, in conclusion, returning to idle.
6. Read the value of the tachometer to idle speed and compare the result of measurement to requirements of Specifications or data label VECI.

In case of doubt should be given preference according VECI.

ADJUSTMENT

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. At excessively low or high idle should make an adjustment with a special adjusting screw.

Do not attempt to adjust the idle speed using the existing factory installation of the retaining screw on the throttle.

2. On models 1993 and 1994 Vol. Turn fully counter-clockwise selector modes PCM, then stop the engine.
3. On models since 1995 Vol. Stop the engine and connect the wiring to the TPS.
4. Disconnect the tachometer.
