Check of serviceability of functioning of the fuel pump, the fuel pressure measurement

See. Warning at the beginning of Section Dropping the pressure in the fuel system.

General checks

Ensure that there is in the tank enough fuel. Inspect the fuel lines for signs of leaks.

Make sure that the fuel pump actually works. Cock a lay brake and ask the assistant to turn on the ignition, turning the key to ON, - in the tank should be heard the characteristic sound of the pump (the pump should run for about two seconds, during which the desired pressure rise in the power supply).

The sound of the pump is clearly audible through the open neck of the fuel tank. If the pump is working properly, but there is a suspicion of a violation of serviceability of functioning of the power system, measure the pressure developed by the SPLA.

If the pump does not turn on, continue to check the status of its electrical circuit (see chap. Onboard electric equipment). Check relevant fuses and relays, make sure of serviceability of giving power to the pump connector. Rate the quality of the grounding.

If power is supplied properly and the quality of the ground is not broken, replace the pump (see. Section Removal and installation of the fuel pump).

Check the pressure of the fuel pump

To check the fuel pressure gauge need a special scale with a wide range of transition and attachment for connecting a pressure gauge to the fuel injection system.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Relieve the pressure in the supply system (see. Section Dropping the pressure in the supply).

2. Disconnect the outlet line from the fuel filter is connected between the filter and the fuel line fitting a three-way, which is connected to a pressure gauge. Track reliability of a tightening hose clamps.

3. Turn off all electrical consumers and turn the key in the ignition switch to ON. It must happen 5-second switch of the fuel pump, - the pressure gauge reading. Compare result to requirements of Specifications.
4. Start the engine and warm it up at idle until normal operating temperature. Read the pressure gauge reading and compare it to the value specified in the Specifications. Disconnect the pressure regulator vacuum line (see. Section Removal and installation of the fuel pressure regulator), - the pressure must be increased to the value specified in paragraph 4.
5. If the readings taken are within the limits specified in Specifications range, therefore, the system is functioning properly, otherwise, check the following:

a) If the pressure is too high, check the vacuum supply to the fuel pressure regulator. Changing engine speed should lead to fluctuations in the vacuum. If depression occurs, check the patency and condition of the hose and pipe fuel return line. If the return line is OK, replace the pressure regulator;
b) In extremely low pressure, check the condition and patency of the fuel filter and the fuel pipe extending from the fuel line to the fuel tank. If no violations during the inspection can not be identified, start the engine and slowly press a return line. If the pressure increase of more than 3.0 kgf / cm 2, replace the pressure regulator (see. Section Removal and installation of the fuel pressure regulator).

Do not let the pressure increase of more than 4.2 kgf / cm 2. If the pressure is still too low, replace the fuel pump (see. Section Removal and installation of the fuel pump);

6. Stop the engine, leaving the ignition on. Keep watching the pressure gauge for about another 5 minutes - the pressure must be reduced slowly. If the pressure drops too quickly, check the following:

a) Do not turn off the ignition, press a fuel supply line in the area between the three-way fitting and the fuel tank, then turn off the ignition, - if the pressure falls rapidly, so there are leaks through the injector (s) injection;
b) Re-turn on the ignition and press a feed line, this time, the area between the nipple and the fuel line. Turn the ignition off, - a rapid drop in pressure indicates a violation of the functioning of the control valve of the fuel pump submerged.
7. When you have finished testing, release pressure fuel (see. Section Dropping the pressure in the fuel system), and disconnect the pressure gauge.
