Check and replace the camshaft position sensor (CMP)

Perform the following procedure may result in a memorized OBD fault, which will be displayed control lamp "Check up the engine". Upon completion of inspection and corresponding regenerative repair do not forget to clean the system memory (see. Section System of onboard diagnostics (OBD) - a principle of functioning and codes of malfunctions).

Models 1993 and 1994 Vol.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Sensor CMP is used to determine the engine speed and the current position of the piston in its cylinder. Removable information is provided on-board processor that based on its analysis provides appropriate adjustments duration of injection and ignition timing settings. SMR sensor consists of a rotary plate and the wave signal forming circuit. The rotary plate is divided grooves 360 divisions (in increments of 1 ?). The shape and location of the slots allow you to track the speed of the engine and its current position of the camshaft. The shaping circuit integrated set of light and photodiodes. During the passage of the teeth of the rotor in the gap between the light and the photodiode are sequentially interrupt a light beam, which is then converted into an undulating amplitude signal outputted to the PCM. The sensor is built into the PCM distributor.

2. Disconnect the connector to the wiring harness going to the distributor. Turn on the ignition. voltmeter terminal prozondiruyte black and white wire connectors. When no voltage check the condition of the wiring on the circuit between the relay ECCS and battery. (do not forget the fuses). Also check the condition of the actual relay, and wiring coming from a distributor to the connector (see. The wiring diagram at the end of the Head the Onboard electric equipment). Using an ohmmeter, check if the grounding terminal black wire.
3. Turn off the ignition and remove the valve from the motor (see chap. Electric motor). Restore initial connection of wiring. Connect the positive lead of the voltmeter to the terminal green and black wires from the back side of the connector. The negative probe to ground to ground. Turn on the ignition and start to slowly turn the shaft distributor, watching the meter readings. It should take place the following picture: 6 jumps in the amplitude of 5.0 V for one revolution of the shaft against the backdrop of a zero base signal. This check confirms serviceability of registration signal 120 ?.
4. When the ignition is off, connect a voltmeter to terminal green-yellow wire. Turn on the ignition and start slowly rotate the shaft of the distributor. This time must be a regular 5-volt voltage peaks with a frequency of 360 pieces. per shaft revolution. This procedure allows you to verify the serviceability of generating a signal 1 ?.
5. In case of negative results of the above checks the ignition distributor assembly should be replaced (see chap. Electric motor) - CMP sensor maintenance on an individual basis can not be.

Models from 1995 MY.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. CMP sensor is located in the cover of the timing in front of the power unit. The sensor consists of a permanent magnet core and a wire coil and serves to define grooves in the camshaft sprocket. When passing sprocket teeth near the sensor changes the magnetic field surrounding it, which in turn is converted into a signal voltage outputted to the PCM. Based on the analysis of information coming from the sensor control unit determines the position of the pistons in their cylinders (TDC).

2. Disconnect the sensor wiring. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the two terminals of the sensor connector. At a temperature of 20 ? C should be a resistance of 1440 ÷ 1760 Ohm sensor (manufactured by Hitachi) / 2090 ÷ 2550 Ohm sensor (manufactured by Mitsubishi) faulty sensor must be replaced.
3. If the result produced above checks refer to connection diagrams (see chap. Onboard electric equipment) and check the wiring coming from the PCM for signs of continuity. Make sure of absence of a violation of the quality of ground black wire harness (use an ohmmeter). If the sensor and the wiring in the order, drive to a workshop to diagnose the state of the PCM and perform the proper reconditioning.
