Check and replacement of the gauge engine coolant temperature (ECT)
ECT sensor also is a thermistor (see. Section Checking and replacing the intake air temperature sensor (IAT)). On models 1993 and 1994 Vol. the sensor is placed in the inlet water flowing behind the distributor of ignition, on models from 1995 MY. - At the outlet behind the left (front) of the cylinder head. The change in resistance of the sensor directly affects the amplitude of the signal output to PCM them. At the same time, to reduce the temperature resistance of the sensor increases and vice versa. RSM uses the information emitted by the sensor in determining the operating temperature of the engine. ECT sensor failure / breach in his circuit lead to recording in a memory unit of self-relevant code (see. Section System of onboard diagnostics (OBD) - a principle of functioning and codes of malfunctions).
CHECK | 1. Before you proceed directly to the assessment of the state of the sensor, make sure of serviceability of giving him the power of the PCM and in the absence of evidence of violations of the ground. Disconnect the ECT sensor wiring and connect a voltmeter to the two terminals of the connector from the harness. Turn on the ignition (the engine do not start), - the meter should give an indication of 5.0 V, otherwise check up an electroconducting condition on a chain site between the sensor and the PCM. If the connection is in order, drive to a workshop to diagnose the state of the PCM and perform the proper reconditioning. 2. With the ignition off, disconnect the ECT sensor wiring and use an ohmmeter to measure the resistance between the two terminals of the sensor connector while the engine is cold. Restore initial connection of electrical wiring, start the engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature. Again disunite connector and repeat the measurement of resistance. Compare the two measurements with the schedule of the temperature dependence of the sensor. Faulty sensor must be replaced. | Thinner check the status of the ECT sensor can be made out of the car and build a complete graph of the temperature dependence by lowering the heated water on the fire. |

REPLACEMENT | | Before proceeding with the procedure, wait for the complete cooling of the engine. |
1. Before installing the new sensor wrap its threaded portion Teflon tape / tape FUM. 2. Disconnect the wiring from the sensor and remove it from its socket path cooling system. As soon as possible (in order to minimize the loss of liquid) Screw the removed sensor is new and firmly tighten it. 3. Check the coolant level, if necessary, make appropriate adjustment (see chap. Adjustment and routine maintenance). Start the engine, warm it up to normal operating temperature and check for signs of leaks. After cooling of the engine again, check level of coolant. |
