Check of the state, replacement and adjustment of the throttle position sensor (TPS)

Represents a variable resistance potentiometer TPS is mounted on the throttle body and is connected to the throttle valve axis. Based on the analysis of incoming signals from the TPS PCM determines the exact current position of the damper due to the degree of squeezing gas pedal by the driver. The output of the sensor failure can lead to uncontrolled releases of fuel injectors and a violation of the stability of the engine speed. In identifying the problems in the TPS system memory self-test shall be stored a fault code (see. Section System of onboard diagnostics (OBD) - a principle of functioning and codes of malfunctions). In most models of the TPS terminal includes a sensor switch open / closed throttle position, at the appropriate carrying uted circuit electrical circuits.

CHECK

PERFORMANCE ORDER

Perform the following procedure may result in a memorized OBD fault, which will be displayed control lamp "Check up the engine". Upon completion of inspection and corresponding regenerative repair do not forget to clean the system memory (see. Section System of onboard diagnostics (OBD) - a principle of functioning and codes of malfunctions).

1. Before you proceed directly to the check of serviceability of TPS make the power supply from the PCM to the TPS and the absence of violations of the grounding. Disconnect the TPS wiring and connect the positive lead of the voltmeter to the terminal green-black (1993 and 1994) / red (1995) wire harness to the connector. Negative probe, connect the black wire to the terminal. With the ignition on (do not start the engine), the device should register about 5.0 V. No voltage indicates open circuit PCM or failure of their own modules (in the latter case, the car should be driven away on a car repair shop in order to conduct diagnostic control module and perform the appropriate reconditioning ).

2. To check the serviceability of functioning TPS connect an ohmmeter to terminals number 2 and number 3 of the sensor. Measure the resistance of TPS in a fully closed position of the throttle, and then start slowly lifts the flap, observing the change in resistance of the sensor. On models 1993 and 1994 Vol. meter reading should be changed from 1.0 ohms at completely closed throttle to 9.0 ohms when fully open. On models since 1995 Vol. - From 0.5 kW to 4.0 kW, respectively. Increased resistance should take place smoothly.

3. Disconnect the electrical wiring from the terminal gauge-switch open / closed positions throttle. Connect an ohmmeter to plugs ?? 5 and 6 of the sensor connector. Make sure available conductivity gauge-switch valve is closed completely, then slightly open the latest. When you open throttle conductivity should be absent, otherwise replace the assembly TPS.

REPLACEMENT

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Disconnect the negative wire from the battery.

If installed on the car stereo is equipped with a security code before to disconnect the battery make sure that have a correct combination for equipment introduction in action!

2. Remove the air intake duct (see chap. The power supply system and release) and disconnect the wiring from TPS sensor and terminal-throttle switch.
3. Remove the two screws and remove assemblage of TPS to the throttle body.
4. Install the new sensor on the regular place and loosely tighten the mounting screws.
5. Adjust the TPS (See below.), And then tighten the fasteners.

ADJUSTMENT

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Remove the air inlet duct (see chap. The power supply system and release).
2. Loosen the screws that secure the assembly TPS on the throttle.
3. On models equipped with a sensor-terminal switch is fully open / closed throttle position, disconnect from the last wiring and connect an ohmmeter in accordance with the instructions set out in paragraph 4. Enter the probe blade thickness of 0.3 mm between the lever and the throttle stop screw - the instrument must register conductivity presence. Now enter into the gap blade thickness of 0.4 mm - this time the circuit must be open. Rotate the TPS Achieve the desired result, then tighten the screws.

In no case do not touch the persistent screw throttle lever - it is factory set and can not be adjusted!

4. On models without terminating the gauge-switch throttle prozondiruyte voltmeter terminal ends of the reverse of white and black wires on the connector harness TPS (try not to damage the terminals when entering probes - for details, see. Chapter Onboard electric equipment). With the ignition (the engine do not start) and fully closed throttle device must be registered in the reading range of about 0.4 ÷ 0.5 V, otherwise, make an appropriate adjustment by rotating the assembly TPS, then tighten the screws.
