Check and replacement of the gauge measuring the mass air flow (MAF)

The MAF sensor is placed in the air intake hose. As a sensitive element in the sensor uses a filament. The object of the sensor is to measure the amount (by weight) of the intake air into the engine. Flowing around the filament sensor, air flow causes cooling. Changing the temperature sensing element is converted into an electrical signal the amplitude and is sent to the PCM encoder. Based on analysis of the information received PCM determines the required duration of the pulse of opening of injectors of injection. Disclaimer MAF sensor leads to record in memory of self-corresponding fault code (see. Section System of onboard diagnostics (OBD) - a principle of functioning and codes of malfunctions).

CHECK

PERFORMANCE ORDER

Perform the following procedure may result in a memorized OBD fault, which will be displayed control lamp "Check up the engine". Upon completion of inspection and corresponding regenerative repair do not forget to clean the system memory (see. Section System of onboard diagnostics (OBD) - a principle of functioning and codes of malfunctions).

1. Before checking the proper gauge MAF, make sure of serviceability of giving him food and appreciate the quality of the grounding.
2. Disconnect the MAF sensor wiring. And connect the positive lead of the voltmeter to the terminal black and white (1993 and 1994) / red (1995) wire connector. The negative probe to ground to ground. Turn on the ignition (the engine do not start), - the meter must register voltage close to the voltage of the battery, otherwise, check the condition of the relay ECCS and chains corresponding electrical circuit (see. The wiring diagram at the end of the Head the Onboard electric equipment).
3. On models 1993 and 1994 Vol. Check the grounding terminal black wire harness - there should be a conductivity of the ground.

4. Restore initial connection of wiring to the MAF sensor probe and probe the positive terminal of the voltmeter white wire to the back of the pin (negative lead of the voltmeter to earth ground) (see chap. Onboard electric equipment). With the ignition (the engine do not start) there must be a voltage of about 0.5 (1993 and 1994) /1.0 (1995) B.

5. Run the engine at idle speed and measure again - this time, the instrument must register reading 1.0 ÷ 1.7 V. With increasing engine speed signal voltage should also increase (up to 3.0 V). Unfortunately, in a garage to simulate the operation of the engine under load it is not possible, however, the above-described voltage dependence of revolutions must be traced very clearly.
6. The positive results of the above tests confirm serviceability of the gauge MAF. Now, check the wiring of the sensor circuit for signs of continuity. If any deviations can not be identified, the car should be driven away on a car repair shop for diagnostics and related reconditioning PCM.

Deeper diagnosis sensor MAF (some deviations can not be detected by a voltmeter) may also be made in a service station.

REPLACEMENT

PERFORMANCE ORDER

Put in a plastic housing MAF sensor is replaced, complete with metal sleeves intake within which it is fixed. Do not attempt to eject the sensor from the sleeve.

1. Disconnect the sensor wiring.

2. Release the clamp sensor in the air inlet sleeve and remove the four screws.

3. Install the new sensor and reconnect the wiring.
