Drive belts - Check, adjustment and replacement



1. For the accessory drive belts wedge-shaped cross-section are used.
2. The number of belts fitted to the vehicle depends on the type of engine and on the vehicle. The belt drive is provided for the generator, water pump, air conditioning compressor and power steering.

3. The state of the belts tested for touch and examination (flashlight illuminating belts). Check for peeling rubber lining glued on both sides of the base belts strain bases at the ends of the webbing, the solidification of the belt damage (cracks, wear and tear of tracks, see. Photo). Also check for signs of wear, and the glass material of the belt, as a result of which the belt is observed gloss. Twist the belt and check both sides.
4. Check the belt tension. When the distance between the centers of the pulleys 170 to 280 mm deflection of the belt should be about 6 mm. If this distance is from 300 to 400 mm, the deflection should be about 13 mm (photo).
5. To adjust the tension are special devices (photo).
6. To adjust the mounting bolts necessary to release the machine and move the unit by pulling the strap (or turn the adjusting screw). Tighten fixing boats and check the tension. If the tension is correct, tighten the screws (see photo). Toothed belt tension is adjusted by moving a roller.

7. It is recommended to change all belts at once.
