Preparatory actions and the list of repair procedures which can be performed without removing the engine from the car
Clean the engine compartment and the outer surfaces of the power unit using one of a wide range of special solvents. Such treatment would avoid getting dirt into the engine.
In case of need, determined by the nature of the work, the hood can be removed in order to ensure freedom of access to serviceable components (see chap. Body). Cover car fenders special cases, or just old blankets to prevent accidental damage to the paintwork.
If it is suspected loss or diversion of vacuum oil, coolant, exhaust gases, etc. It indicates the need to perform replacement of relevant gaskets or seals, almost any of the above procedures may be performed without removing the engine from the vehicle (in situ). This applies to replacement procedures gaskets intake manifold and exhaust manifold, oil pan, cylinder heads, as well as both seals crankshaft.
Dismantling, repair and installation of such external sites and ancillary, as the intake manifold, exhaust manifold, oil pan, oil and water pumps, starter, alternator, distributor and parts supply system can also be produced in situ.
Since the cylinder head can be removed from the engine without extracting the power unit, the service valve mechanism can also be produced directly by car. In addition, in situ it is usually performed replacing the camshaft timing belt and timing gears.
In an emergency, without dismantling the power plant also allowed the repair and replacement of piston rings, pistons, connecting rods and connecting rod bearings of the crankshaft. But we should not abuse this opportunity due to the difficulties associated with the need to comply with cleanliness and a series of preparatory procedures.
