1. The top dead center (TDC) is the highest point of the stroke in a cylinder. Strictly speaking, a 4-stroke engines in the course of rotation of the crankshaft position, this is achieved by each of pistons twice: once at the end of the compression stroke, and the second - at the end of the exhaust stroke. When setting the valve timing and ignition timing in most cases used the position TDC of the piston (usually the first cylinder). 2. The need for a reduction of the piston (s) to TDC occurs during many procedures, in particular, such as the removal / installation of camshafts, components, timing and the ignition distributor. 3. Make sure that the mission is translated into the neutral position, and then firmly cock a lay brake, or prop up the rear wheels of a vehicle wheel chock. Also immobilize the ignition system by disconnecting the coil wire from the distributor cap and grounding it on the weight of the unit. Remove the spark plug (see chap. Adjustment and routine maintenance). 4. Reduction of any of pistons to TDC produced by cranking the engine with one of the following methods. If you look at the engine front (from the drive belt), the normal direction of rotation of the crankshaft will be clockwise. Remember that attempt turning shaft counterclockwise may violate regulations timing belt:
a) The most effective method is the shaft to rotate in the normal direction of the bolt screwed into the front end of the stud using a socket wrench with ratchet drive; b) Save time allows the use of a remote starter switch (follow manufacturer's instructions). Once the piston will be quite close to the TDC, the starter is stopped and further adjustment is carried out by the method described in paragraph (a); c) In the presence of an assistant prior to crank the engine can be carried out by short spurts from the driver's seat under the supervision of the operator. The principle is the same as that described in paragraph (b). Final adjustments, again, done by hand, using a socket wrench (see para. A). | 5. Note the position of the terminal connecting wire candle of the first cylinder on a distributor cover. If the terminal is not marked, walk through the wire from the spark to the lid and apply the appropriate mark on their own. |
6. With a marker or chalk, mark the rim of the distributor housing at the point directly beneath the terminal cover of the first cylinder. 7. Remove the cover from the distributor and set it aside (see chap. Adjustment and routine maintenance). | 8. Turn the crankshaft clockwise so that the null (yellow) TDC on its pulley is aligned with the triangular pointer on the timing belt cover. | On the pulley has several positioning marks: 0 (TDC) to 30 ? in increments of 5 ?. Zero is the leftmost mark (looking at the front), which is usually colored with yellow. |
|
| 9. Now check the position of the slider of the distributor, - it should be deployed nose exactly to the mark on the rim of the housing. |
10. If the slider is deployed relative label 180 ?, therefore, the first cylinder is at TDC of the exhaust stroke end. 11. In order to bring the piston to the TDC should crank for one full rotation (360 ?) clockwise. Now, the runner must turn nose to the label. 12. If all of the above conditions are met to combine the marks, the problem may be deemed to be fulfilled - the first cylinder is provided in the position of TDC. 13. Now, to turn in the order of ignition, put in the remaining piston TDC, the corresponding label should be applied on the rim of the distributor body (as it did above for the connection terminals of the first spark plug wires). Cranking will inevitably be accompanied by the rotation of the slider, which is the combination spout with the corresponding label, and will be bringing another confirmation of the piston in TDC. | To move from one cylinder to TDC TDC following the crankshaft must be turned by 120 ?. |
