Check the functioning of the cooling system and frost coolant fluid replacement
general information Many serious violations in the work related to the engine cooling system fault. If the car is equipped with an automatic transmission, its function and service life are also directly related to the operation of the cooling system. | - Check the cooling system must be done when the engine is cold, so it's best to do it before the first day of the current trip, or no earlier than three hours after stopping the engine.
- Slowly, being careful in case the engine is still not completely cooled, remove the reservoir tank cover. Thoroughly rinse the inside and outside with clean water. Also rinse the tank filler neck. The presence of traces of corrosion in the filler neck means that the coolant must be replaced. The coolant within the expansion tank must be relatively clean and transparent. If the fluid has a brownish tint, empty the system and fill it with new coolant (see. Section Checking the oil level).
| - Carefully read the radiator and heater hoses. Inspect the hoses over the entire length, the detection of cracks, swellings and signs of aging are changing the material. Cracks are easier to detect by squeezing the hose. Pay special attention to the location of the pipe straps can cut or pierce hoses.
|
- Make sure of reliability of fastening of all hose connections. Coolant leaks typically appear as white or brownish-red deposit in the vicinity of violation of the sealing space. If for any mounting of the hose clamps used in the wire type, it makes sense to replace them with worm / screw.
- Compressed air blow out the front of the heat exchanger radiator and with appropriate equipment, and a condenser K / V. Remove them from the gaps between the heat exchanger plates remains of insects, leaves and other foreign objects, - try not to damage the plate and not to cut your fingers on them.
- If you need to adjust the level of the coolant occurs regularly though traces of any external leaks are not available, should make a check of the cooling system pressure in a service station.

Checking coolant frost | Do not suppose antifreeze hit on open sites of a body and the painted surfaces of the vehicle. Casual splashes immediately wash off with plenty of water. Remember that antifreeze is highly toxic liquid and its hit in an organism even in small amounts is fraught with the most serious consequences, including death. Never leave antifreeze stored in leaky closed container, immediately collect spilled on the floor coolant. Remember that the sweetish smell of antifreeze can draw the attention of children and pets. On properly disposing of the waste coolant consult on HUNDRED - in many countries developing are special points on any reception of working off - in any case does not drain the old coolant into drains or on the ground! |
 | Recently developed non-toxic antifreeze grade, however, they must be disposed of in an organized manner. |
| - Before the start of the winter season, it is imperative to check the antifreeze concentration in the coolant, especially if the system during the summer driving in the system then filled with water - use properly calibrate a hydrometer.
- Slightly warm up the engine so that the upper radiator hose is hot, - the measurement of the concentration of the antifreeze liquid temperature should be around 20 ? C.
- Carefully unscrew the bottle.
 | When the engine is hot plug the expansion tank should be opened very carefully, cover it with a cloth beforehand. Open the tank should be only when the coolant temperature is below 90 ? C! |
- Evacuate the sample fluid into the working chamber of the hydrometer.
- In the temperate latitudes of the concentration of antifreeze must provide protection up to a temperature of -25 ? C in extreme cold to -35 ? C.

Replacing engine coolant Replacing the coolant must be carried out strictly in accordance with the schedule of routine maintenance of the car (see. Section routine maintenance schedule). The order of the procedure given above in Section Checking the oil level.
