Checking the oil level

Regardless of the timing of maintenance on the vehicle according to the schedule THAT, regularly inspect the car for any signs of external leaks of hydraulic fluids, indicating the presence of failures require immediate correction.

Fluids are an integral part of the systems, lubrication, cooling, braking, steering and hydrostrengthening washing of glasses. Due to the gradual consumption and contamination of fluids during normal operation of the vehicle, they must be replaced periodically. Use to adjust the levels of only meets the specifications of the Head Current leaving and service fluid.

When checking the fluid level every car should take a strictly horizontal position.

Engine oil

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Checking the motor oil is made using the probe, - the location of the probe in the engine compartment illustrated Engine compartment (for example, a vehicle equipped with a petrol engine). The probe is threaded into the metal guide tube and passes down, reaching the bottom of the sump.
  1. The measurement of motor oil should be done before starting the engine or at least 2 minutes after it stopped.

If you begin to measure the level of motor oil immediately after the engine is switched off, some of the oil will remain in the upper part of the unit and the measurement results can not be considered reliable.

  1. Start the engine, warm it up to normal operating temperature, then stop and wait for a few minutes, allowing the oil to drain into the oil pan.
  2. Remove the dipstick from guide tube and wipe it dry with a clean lint-free cloth blade / paper towel. All the way back to enter the dipstick and remove it from the back of the guide tube. The length of the wetted portion of oil end of the blade will match the level of oil in the engine. The top edge of the wetted area should be between F and L marks on the dipstick.
  3. If the motor oil is close to the bottom mark (L), or fell below it, make corresponding updating, having added a little oil through the fitted filler cap located on top of the cylinder head cover, - remember that overfilling the engine oil may cause "throwing" spark plugs, development of oil leaks, failure of seals, as well as damage to the catalytic converter.
  4. Topping up the oil, wait a few minutes, allowing its level to stabilize, then remove the dipstick and check the level, repeat the procedure. If necessary, make appropriate adjustment. If the filler cap found contamination, wash it with gasoline. Screw the lid onto the neck and tighten by hand.

Engine coolant

Do not suppose antifreeze hit on open sites of a body and the painted surfaces of the vehicle. Casual splashes immediately wash off with plenty of water. Remember that antifreeze is highly toxic liquid and its hit in an organism even in small amounts is fraught with the most serious consequences, including death. Never leave antifreeze stored in leaky closed container, immediately collect spilled on the floor coolant. Remember that the sweetish smell of antifreeze can draw the attention of children and pets. About disposal of used coolant, consult with the local authorities - in many parts of the world special points on any reception of working off. In no case do not drain the old coolant down the drain and to the ground!

Do not remove the cover from the filler expansion tank / radiator to full cooling of the engine!

Considered in this manual cars are equipped with a cooling system of compensation type, operating at a positive pressure. Plastic expansion tank as gasoline and diesel models placed at the left front corner of the engine compartment (see. Graphic Engine compartment (for example, a vehicle equipped with a gasoline engine)) and an overflow hose connected to the radiator of the cooling system. As the heating of the engine during its operation of the expanding coolant is forced into the cavity of the tank. When the engine cooling liquid is automatically returned via transfer hose in the working path of the cooling system.

Checking the coolant level in the expansion tank should be done regularly, at least once a year (preferably before the onset of cold weather), and before every long trip. The liquid level in the tank varies depending on the temperature of the engine and at cold aggregate must be above the mark ?L? the blade attached to the probe cover.
Estimated liquid level can be checked visually through the translucent walls of the tank .. As the heat of the engine liquid level should be closer to the mark MAX, or to climb a little higher - if this requirement is not met, allow the engine to cool, then remove the lid from the tank and make appropriate adjustments .

For the filling of the cooling system is required to use a mixture of water, antifreeze and means for protection against corrosion in accordance with the requirements of Specifications of the Head Current leaving and service.

If it becomes necessary to fill the cooling system in a way that can be used in the summer of clean, soft water - antifreeze can be topped up later, at the first opportunity.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. If the coolant level decreases rapidly, visually check the cooling system for signs of leakage:
    • Check the condition of hoses and reliability of their attachment to the nozzle, replace damaged components;
    • Check the tightness and the expansion tank cap.
  2. If leaks are found, make a check radiator cap, and all the cooling path (see chap. System of cooling, heating, ventilation and air conditioning).
  3. It is also necessary to check the condition of the cooling liquid, - it should be relatively clear and transparent. If the liquid is brown or rusty color, it should drain, flush and refill the cooling canal system with fresh mixture. Even if the liquid looks normal, we should not forget that its member corrosion inhibitors eventually lose its effectiveness, mean that it is necessary from time to time to replace the coolant.

The presence of air bubbles in the liquid, easily distinguishable through the filler neck of the radiator shows it gets into the combustion chamber of the engine, which is an indirect confirmation of the presence of the exhaust in the form of a thick white smoke, - replace the cylinder head gasket (see chap. Engine).

  1. To drain the coolant, remove the radiator cap and open the drain valve at the bottom part thereof, - Prepare an appropriate amount of drain capacity. After emptying the cooling system be sure to rinse it with clean running water.
  1. Bay in fresh mixture, let the engine run for a while with the cover of the radiator, and then, if necessary, two or three times squeeze the gas pedal and modify the coolant level, bringing it to the desired value.
  2. Screw the cover of the radiator and check the connections of the cooling tract for signs of leaks, - if necessary, tighten the fasteners used. A few days more, check the coolant level, if necessary, make appropriate adjustment.

brake fluid

Brake fluid is one of aggressive chemicals and can cause damage to the painted surfaces of the car bodywork. If you get brake fluid in your eyes and the mucous membranes of the body affected areas should be immediately rinsed with copious amounts of water! Because of the high water absorption, is unacceptable to use the brake fluid is stored in an open container - to collect the liquid moisture is not able to ensure adequate effectiveness of the brake system! Remember that mixing brake fluids of different varieties also categorically unacceptable!

Made of translucent plastic reservoir of brake fluid is fixed to the assembly of the brake master cylinder (GTZ), is placed in the left rear corner of the engine compartment on the rear bulkhead (see. Illustration Engine compartment (for example, a vehicle equipped with a petrol engine)), and is divided into two parts each of which is connected to the separate hydraulic circuit.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Translucent tank wall from the outside allow you to visually monitor the level of brake fluid which, when the lid is closed should be between deposited on one of the walls marks MIN and MAX. Make sure that the fluid level does not fall below the MIN.
  1. Before removing the reservoir cap to meet adjust the level of brake fluid, carefully wipe it and the adjacent surface of the tank with a clean cloth in order to prevent falling into the hydraulic path pollution. Remove the lid and add in the tank necessary quantity of coolant required grades.

If any sign of the path of the mud or water, brake fluid should be replaced - do not forget at the end of the procedure to pump hydraulic path (see chap. Brake System).

  1. After finishing the adjustment, screw in place and hand-tighten the lid of the tank, making sure its density planting.
  2. For a lowering of the level of brake fluid in the reservoir will be observed in the course of wear of the friction linings of brake pads, - the replacement of the latter level must be restored automatically. The constant lowering of low brake fluid level shows the development of external leakage path - Inspect brake lines, hoses and couplings hydraulic path, reassess the GTZ, inspect brake calipers and wheel cylinders, make sure there are no signs of leaks on the interior side of the wheel assemblies.
  3. If there has been an excessive lowering of the brake fluid, hydraulic path system after adjusting the level must be pumped to remove the air got into it (see chap. Brake System).

Power steering fluid (GUR)

The emergence of the need for topping up power steering fluid indicates the development of leaks in the system - to check the address on HUNDRED!

Power steering reservoir placed in the left front corner of the engine compartment directly behind the surge tank of the cooling system (see. Illustration Engine compartment (for example, a vehicle equipped with a petrol engine)).

The tank is equipped with screw-on lid with integrated measuring probe - the fluid level should be between the H and L on the dipstick.

Alternatively, the reservoir may be equipped with a probe - in this case, the level scale is applied directly on its translucent walls. Lowering the liquid below the L unacceptable. In case of need make corresponding updating, having added to the tank required amount of fluid specified in grade specifications.

To avoid foaming, do not shake the container with the liquid before use, try pouring the liquid slowly, minimizing the chance of blistering. Use only fresh liquid vehicle manufacturers approved varieties (see. Specifications of the Head Current leaving and service).

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. After finishing the adjustment, start the engine a few times and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock, releasing from a hydraulic path of air pockets.

Windshield washer fluid

Liquid for washing the windshield is poured into a plastic hinged lid equipped with a tank mounted on the right front corner of the engine compartment (see. Illustration Engine compartment (for example, a vehicle equipped with a petrol engine)).

The reservoir fluid rear window washer is placed under the interior trim panel right rear rack - Open the tailgate and remove the small plug located at the lower cut-off side window. At the mouth of a tank filled with a removable corrugated strip, the application of which substantially facilitates the process of pouring liquid.

In areas with a temperate climate as the washing liquid can be used ordinary clean water with the addition of a small amount of glass cleaner. In cold weather, the tanks should be filled no more than two-thirds, leaving scope to expand the supply of the mixture at its freezing. In areas with cold climates during the winter should be used for washing of glasses resistant to freezing special alcohol solution - which you can buy in the shops of automobile accessories.

Available as a special concentrate, which should be mixed in the proper ratio with water - act in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions means.

Gear Oil Manual transmission

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Dipstick oil box design is not provided.
  2. Drive the car on the rack or horizontally on the post lift.
  1. Clean the dirt from the surface of the crankcase Manual transmission around the inspection hole and remove the plug from the latter.
  1. The oil level should reach the lower edge of a control aperture, - to check, use a piece of wire bent at a right angle end, or enter into the hole a little finger.
  2. In case of need through the same hole in a box add gear oil recommended type - adjustments are made in stages, pouring oil in small portions each time checking the level of pre-letting the oil to drain into the sump.
  3. Having achieved the desired result, wipe the stopper, put on her new sealing washer, then screw into the hole and tighten to 30 Nm.
  4. Lower the car on the ground and make sure there are no signs of leaks gear oil, paying special attention LOCATION plug control / filler plug and a joint housing Manual transmission with the engine - housing should be thoroughly cleaned, then sprinkle these areas talc, or lime, and, having made the vehicle a short trip (about 30 km) with the use of the full range of switching box, make repeated visual inspection. If leaks cause of their development should be immediately eliminated.
  5. If you need to adjust the transmission oil level occurs regularly, this indicates a fault that needs to be immediately detected and eliminated.

Automatic transmission fluid (ATF)

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. During the short 30-minute drive ATF warming up to normal operating temperature, then park the vehicle on level ground.
  2. With the engine running consistently spend selector AT lever through all working positions, in conclusion, returning it to position "P".
  3. Cock a lay brake and allow the engine a few minutes to idle.
  1. Wipe the handle of the probe and the end of the guide tube in order to eliminate the risk of transmission of dirt ingress.

  1. Remove the dipstick, wipe it with a clean lint-free cloth blade and again neatly tuck all the way into the guide tube. Again, remove the dipstick and check the ATF level on the marking applied to the blade, - the end of the wetted area of the blade should be between the two risks, mark the boundaries of a "hot" (75 ? C) scale.

If the heated ATF does not reach the lower limit of the "hot" scale, the car should not be allowed to use!

  1. If necessary, adjust the level of ATF, adding the liquid of a demanded grade (see. Specifications of the Head Current leaving and service) with the help of a funnel through the guide tube of the probe - ATF fill in small portions, allowing it to drain completely into the sump of the transmission. After finishing the adjustment, recheck level ATF.

Exceeding the permissible level ATF can lead to transmission failure - excess fluid to be pumped from the crankcase AT!

Grease the transfer case

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Drive the car on the rack or horizontally on the post lift.
  2. On models with a transfer case equipped with a control opening, release the two pairs of bolt and remove the side of the box support suspension.
  1. Clean the dirt from the surface of the transfer case around the inspection hole and remove the plug from the latter.
  1. The oil level should reach the lower edge of a control aperture, - to check, use a piece of wire bent at a right angle end, or enter into the hole a little finger.
  2. In case of need through the same hole in a box add the recommended oil type.
  3. Having achieved the desired result, wipe the stopper, put on her new sealing washer, then screw into the hole and tighten to 30 Nm.
  4. On models corresponding complete refit the side support suspension transfer case.

Grease differentials

PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. Drive the car on the overpass, or post it on a horizontal lift.
  2. Control / filling openings placed on the end surfaces of the crankcase differentials on the front side at the front and rear differential at the rear. Checking the oil level is similar to the test for the Manual transmission and transfer case. Efforts of a tightening caps account for 39 ÷ 54 Nm.
