Check / replacement of level of oil in an automatic transmission

The level of transmission oil in automatic transmission dependent on the temperature of the transmission oil. As for accurate temperature measurement required diagnostic equipment, it is recommended that this work is done at the service station Volkswagen. Typically, the level of oil in an automatic transmission remains constant, if not visually evident leaks. In this case there is no need to check the oil level.

A warning

Without oil in an automatic transmission can not start the engine and produce a towing vehicle.

Checking the oil level

When checking the level of the transmission oil temperature must not exceed 30 ? C. This temperature is reached in a short time after starting the engine. To determine the necessary connector to connect diagnostic equipment VW. Otherwise, the temperature can be determined only approximately.

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Place the vehicle on a lift in a horizontal position.
2. Set the selector lever of automatic transmission in position "P" and tighten a manual brake. Turn off the air conditioning and heating system.
3. Place a suitable container under the drain plug (arrow) transmission. From the bypass (drainage) pipe should drip oil.
4. Replace the O-ring on the screw plug.
5. Start the engine during testing at idle.
6. At a temperature of an automatic transmission from +35 ? C to + 45 ? C the oil level is normal, if there is a slight oil yield (suspended due to the rise in heating oil level). Otherwise, add the oil in the gearbox. Screw cap in place until a temperature of 45 ? C and tighten its moment of 15 Nm.

Topping up the oil

Using the tank VAG 1924 hanging on the hood for topping up oil in the automatic transmission and the VAG-1551 scan tool to check the oil temperature

Removing the safety cap

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Place the vehicle on a lift in a horizontal position.
2. Place a suitable container under the oil pan of an automatic transmission.
3. Use a screwdriver to remove the protective cap located on the filler pipe. This will cause its destruction (see. Fig. Removal of the safety cap). Remove the plug.
4. Remove the drain plug check the oil level.
5. Using the tool VAG 1924 through the oil filler tube top up the transmission oil until it out of the hole to check the oil level (arrow, see. Fig. Topping up the oil in an automatic transmission with the use of adaptation VAG 1924).
6. Set the selector lever to "P", start the engine and let it run at idle.
7. With the engine idling, press the brake and move the selector lever to all positions ("P", "N", "R", "3", "2", "1") with a delay at each position on the 2-3 seconds.
8. Check the oil level in a transmission and, if necessary, correct it.
9. When the required level of oil screw screw (1) and replace the new protective cap (2).

Checking the oil

When checking the level of oil in an automatic transmission and check the condition of the oil. To simplify check the status of oil compare color, odor and viscosity of the oil with fresh oil.

If oil in a transmission dark or almost black with a burnt smell, then worn friction linings transmission.

If the oil in the gearbox has a milky color, it means it is exposed to water. This may occur when constant use of the car for short trips. If the color of the oil does not change after a long trip, you need to change the oil.

If the oil is dark brown and sticky, it could be due to overheating of the gearbox or the oil level is too high in the box. If replacement of oil does not work, the vehicle must be submitted to a specialized workshop Volkswagen.

When checking the oil level or changing the oil in an automatic box in oil there are particles of dirt or metal shavings, it is necessary to diagnose or repair of automatic transmission on a specialized service station Volkswagen.
