Cleaning the engine block

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Leaning blunt the edge of knockout plug Releaser, expand it in his landing slot at 90 ?. Once all the plugs will be deployed, they will simply draw from the engine with the help of forceps.

2. Scrape with a mating surface of the block all traces of the old gasket material, - try not to leave scratches and scuffing.
3. Remove the unit cover all the main bearings and out of their beds inserts last. Immediately mark extracted inserts using adhesive tape to belong to his bed, and bearing it (block or cover), then set them aside.
4. Replace all threaded plugs oil galleries. Plugs can be tightened very tight, to the point that they would have to drill followed by reduction of the threads in the block. When assembling the plug must be replaced.
5. When a strong external contamination of the engine should deliver it to a workshop service center for steam cleaning or thermal treatment.
6. After returning from the studio unit again carefully clean all oil apertures and galleries - are available for this purpose special cylindrical brushes special form (ask in shops of automobile accessories). Wash the cavities and channels of warm water, - to continue washing until the opposite side of the block begins to flow pure water. Thoroughly dry the unit, then lightly grease all pierced surfaces with liquid oil to protect them from corrosion. If you have access to a source of compressed air use it to speed up the drying process unit and purge inaccessible cavities and channels.

When working with compressed air do not forget to wear safety goggles!

7. If heavily soiled or slagging unit should resort to the brush cleaned with hot soapy water. Do not try to save time by neglecting thorough cleaning of the unit. Regardless of the chosen method, be sure carefully cleaning inaccessible cavities, channels and holes. Finally, dry the block and grease the pierced surfaces with liquid oil to protect them from corrosion.

8. Banish all carving apertures in the block tap the appropriate size in order to guarantee compliance with the indicator is really developing a torque wrench Tightening torque fasteners during assembly of the engine. If possible, blow then driven away tap holes with compressed air by removing from them all debris and chips. After finishing treatment of holes, walk Lerke of the bolt bearing caps and cylinder head.

9. Install the main bearing caps, by hand tightening of fasteners.

10. Lubricate the sealing surface of new sealant Releaser jams type Permatex No 1 and set them on the regular places in the block. Ensure perpendicularity of landing plugs - the right thing would be to take advantage of the special mandrel, but it may well replace the head end of a suitable size, which should rest only the inside of the end surface of the plug - not the shoulder.

11. Apply non-hardening sealant such as Permatex No 2 threaded portion of new oil gallery plugs (alternatively wrap them tape FUM). Replace the caps on the regular places and tighten firmly as possible.
12. If you are not going to immediately start assembling the engine, place the unit in a large plastic bag to protect its pollution.
