Installing the connecting rod and piston assemblages and check of size of working backlashes in connecting rod bearings of the crankshaft



PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Before installing the connecting rod and piston assembly cylinder walls should be carefully wiped from their upper edges completely removed traces of wear and stepped blunted. It is understood that the crankshaft is installed on the regular place in the unit (see. Section Install crankshaft rear oil seal).
2. Remove the bottom head of a rod assembly of the first cylinder (make available the factory or put in the course of dismantling marks). Remove the connecting rod and its bearing cap inserts old and carefully wipe them with a clean lint-free cloth bed.

Checking the operating rod bearing clearance

Try not to touch the surface of the new inserts with his bare hands in order to avoid unwanted contact with the bearings are always present on the fingers traces of oil and aggressive chemicals.


PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Wipe the back of the new top liner and put him to bed in the head of the connecting rod bearing. Ensure that the guide tab insert was in response to the rod groove. In no case do not insert zastukivaet bed hammer. Nothing can lubricate the bearing at this stage.
2. Wipe the back of the second loose leaf and lay it in the bottom head of a rod cover. Again, make sure that the tongue was back in the groove. Do not use any grease - it is essential that the mating surfaces of the bearing and rod were absolutely clean and dry.

3. Place the piston ring locks as shown in the illustration.

4. Tighten the screws in the bearing cap segments of suitable diameter rubber hose.
5. Lubricate the piston and piston rings with pure impellent oil. Put the piston mandrel tool for crimping rings. Leave the piston skirt projecting from the mandrel tool of approximately 6.4 mm for free-filling it into a cylinder. Rings should be flush with the crimped forming surface of the piston.
6. Rotate the crankshaft so that the crank neck first appeared in BDC position. Lubricate the motor oil of the first cylinder mirror.
7. Expanding the assembly mark in the form of a recess in the bottom of the piston forward on the engine, carefully thread the rod into the first cylinder block. Get into the cylinder of the piston skirt, tightly pressed to the surface of the block of the lower edge of the mandrel tool for crimping rings.
8. Tap the upper edge of the mandrel to ensure density pressing it to the block around the perimeter of the bottom edge.

9. Gently tapping the bottom of the piston hammer wooden handle, enter the piston inside the cylinder, at the same time directing the bottom head of a rod in the neck of the corresponding crank crankshaft. The piston rings can suddenly jump out of a mandrel tool, and constantly watch density pressing to her unit. Take your time, if there is any resistance, immediately stop zastukivanie piston. Find out the cause of jamming and eliminate it.

In any case, do not attempt to push the piston into the cylinder force - it can lead to mechanical damage or destruction of the piston rings!

10. After the introduction of the connecting rod and piston assembly into the engine before final installation of the bottom head of a rod cover, check the operating clearance of the crankshaft connecting rod bearing.

11. Cut a piece of the calibrated plastic wire measuring set Plastigage, a length slightly shorter than the width of the connecting rod bearing liner and lay it along the first crank pins, parallel to the axis of the latter.

12. Wipe the surface of the bearing in the cover of the bottom head of a rod and set the cap on the connecting rod. Make sure that the label on the cover turned out to be rotated in the same direction as the mark on the rod.
13. Lightly grease the bottom ends of the mounting nuts clean motor oil, screw them in three stages tighten with demanded effort.

To avoid jamming the key, use the thin face head. If you have any signs of seizing the key between the nut and the connecting rod, slightly lift the head and continue tightening. Keep cranking during the execution of the procedure.

14. Give nuts, and carefully remove the cover from the connecting rod. Try not to damage the segment flattened plastic thread.

15. From the width of the flattened wire, measured on a scale, printed on the packaging to a collection Plastigage, define size of a working backlash in the bearing. Compare result of measurement to requirements of Specifications.

16. If the clearance is out of range before to look for a different size inserts, check Do not get under the bed backrest embedded in the connecting rod and cap liners dirt / oil. Once again, measure the diameter of the shaft journal. Flattening of the wire from one end longer than the other indicates the presence of cervical cone (see. Section Checking the crankshaft).

Final installation of the connecting rod and piston assembly

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Gently scrape your fingernail or the edge of an old credit card all traces calibrated wire from the surface of the cervix and / or bearing.
2. Make sure of absoluteness of cleanliness both bearing surfaces, then evenly coat them with a thin layer of molybdenum or assembly of motor lubrication. 3. Return the rod in place, gently putting his head on the bottom of his neck crank, remove the bolts protective hose, replace the cover, and in three stages tighten fixing nuts with demanded effort.

4. Repeat the entire procedure for the other connecting rod and piston assembly.
5. Keep in mind the following important points:

a) Make sure to back on their bed liners and rods and covers to prevent dirt;
b) Ensure that each assembly is installed in a cylinder (even if you install new components, since the gaps of the piston rings were fitted to the concrete cylinders);
c) Pistons must be placed label / arrow on his head forward on the engine (in the timing);
d) Do not forget to install assemblies motor oil to lubricate the cylinder mirror;
e) Do not forget to lubricate the bearings (after check of working backlashes in the past) before final installation of covers.
6. When you have finished installing connecting rod and piston assembly, check the free rotation of the crankshaft by turning it several times manually.
7. Finally, you must check again the axial play of the crankshaft (see. Section Removing the connecting rod and piston assemblies).
8. Compare the measured axial clearance with the requirements of the Specifications. If the play was OK before disassembly of the engine and used the old connecting rod and piston assembly, no surprises should not be. In case the value of the backlash of tolerance after the replacement of rods, the latter must be removed from the engine and give the workshop service centers for the corresponding machining.
