Installation of a cranked shaft and check of working backlashes of radical bearings

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Installation of the crankshaft is a first step in the procedure proper assembly of the engine. It is understood that at this stage of the crankshaft and the engine block is already properly cleaned, inspected and subjected to necessary regenerative repair.
2. Turn the engine upside down.
3. Give fixing bolts, remove the crankshaft bearing caps and place them on the bench in order to install the engine.
4. If you have not done this, remove from their beds in the unit and covers the old main bearing shells. Wipe clean lint-free cloth bed - they have to be perfectly clean.

Check of working backlashes of radical bearings

Try not to touch the surface of the new inserts with his bare hands in order to avoid unwanted contact with the bearings are always present on the fingers traces of oil and aggressive chemicals.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Wipe the back of the new main bearing shells and place appointed oil groove halves in his bed in the unit. The remaining half pads attach to the corresponding bearing caps. Make sure that the tabs liners entered the responses landing slots in the bed of the block, and covers. Oil holes in the block must be properly aligned with the holes in the liner.

Under no circumstances attempt to produce begin to knock unrecoverable installing the liner in his bed with a hammer. Does not grease the bearings at this stage!

2. In the SOHC engine equipped with flanged bearings liner is installed in the lid and the seat of the 4th main bearing. On engines DOHC is the third thrust bearing.
3. Wipe the surface of the bearing block and crankshaft main journals clean lint-free cloth.
4. Check the oil permeability of the shaft holes, if necessary, clean them. Any contained maslotokah foreign particles finally inevitably get into the bearing.
5. Carefully rubbed gently lay the crankshaft main bearing block (do not use any type of lubrication).
6. Before installing the shaft completely, check the size of working backlashes in its main bearings.

7. Cut the wire from the plastic calibrated measuring set Plastigage segments, length slightly shorter than the width of the pads, and place one slice of the wire along each of the main journals of the shaft parallel to its axis.

8. Wipe the surface of loose leaves in covers and install the latest on the regular place (track correctness orientation marking). Try not to move the stacked along the necks of the shaft sections of the calibrated wire. Lightly oil the thread of the fixing screws and screw them, lock the cover.
9. As indicated in one of the illustrations of the procedure in three stages tighten bolts of covers with demanded effort. Do not turn the shaft in the process of tightening the fasteners!

Status bolt main bearing caps should be thoroughly checked (see. Section Removing the crankshaft) in order to avoid inconsistencies reading torque wrench, tighten the true force.

10. Remove the screws and carefully remove the crankshaft bearing caps. Fold the cover removed in order of their location on the engine. Try not to damage the flattened plastic thread and turn the shaft. If any of the covers are not amenable to removal, to release it gently Tap the hammer with soft brisk.

11. width flattened strands, measured on a scale printed on the box set Plastigage, define size of working backlashes of bearings. Compare results of measurements to requirements of Specifications.

12. If the clearance is out of tolerance, may have been installed inserts wrong size (see. Section Check of a condition and selection of loose leaves radical and connecting rod bearings of the crankshaft). Before you look for a new ear, make sure that a nested at this stage, no dirt or oil. If calibrated wire flattened at one end longer than the other, it indicates the presence of cervical cone (see. Section Checking the crankshaft).
13. Carefully remove the flattened plastic thread with necks by stripping all traces of some not too strong a tool (for example, the edge of an old credit card). In a pinch, you can use your own nail - the main thing that on the surface of the necks / inserts left scratching and scuffing.

Final installation of the crankshaft

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Carefully remove the crankshaft of the engine.
2. Clean the surface of the bearing block and evenly coat them with a thin layer of molybdenum or assembly of motor lubrication. Do not forget to lubricate the bearings and the surface.

Try to avoid getting lubricant on the back liners!

3. Make sure of absoluteness of cleanliness of necks of the crankshaft, then brush (the same or grease with pure impellent oil) glands in contact with the surface of the pins. Place the shaft on the regular place.
4. Clean and lubricate the inserts in the bearing caps.
5. Install the bearing caps to the engine (arrow towards timing).
6. Screw the fixing bolts and tighten them with a force of 14 ÷ 16 Nm.
7. Tap on the ends of the shaft pin with a hammer through a brass or lead a drift in order to equalize the thrust surfaces and shrinkage of the shaft before final tightening fasteners.
8. Tighten the cap bolts to the required torque.
9. Several times a cranked shaft manually checking the freedom of rotation.
10. Finally, with the help of blade-type probe or meter DTI determine the amount of axial play of the shaft (see. Section Removing the crankshaft). If the surface of the shaft bearings are not worn or damaged and replaced with new bearings, the amount of movement must not go beyond the permitted range.
11. Install a new crankshaft rear oil seal and priboltite to block the holder (see. Section Install crankshaft rear oil seal).
