Removing the connecting rod and piston assembly



Before proceeding to the recovery of the engine connecting rod and piston assembly, remove the cylinder head, oil sump and maslozabornuyu tube (see. Part Engines SOHC or Engines DOHC this Chapter).


PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Use the special countersink completely remove traces of wear step from the top of the cylinder - act in accordance with the Annex to countersink the manufacturer's instructions. The step formed at the boundary of the stroke, about 6.4 mm below the top of the cylinder cut by mechanical production of metal and carbonization, to identify its presence can touch a finger nail. Attempts to extract the connecting rod and piston groups without removing speed development may cause damage to the pistons.

2. When you have finished preparing the cylinder, turn the engine upside down so that the crankshaft was on top.

3. Before removing the connecting rods to the crankshaft endplay vote value of their landing on the necks of the latter. Firmly enter the blade (s) of the probe into the gap between the side wall of the bottom head of a rod and crank cheek, completely by the backlash of a rod in the neck of the shaft. The total thickness of the blade selected probe will be equal to the axial play of the connecting rod. Compare result of measurement conducted with the requirements of the Specifications. If the axial play exceeds the limit, the rod must be replaced. Axial backlash of a new rod or an old to a new shaft, it may be less than the lower allowable limit, in this case, the connecting rod can be machined - consult with service centers. Alternately, check all the remaining rods.

4. Make available on the bottom heads of rods and their covers identification tags belonging to its cylinder, if necessary, put labels on their own using a small punch.
5. In a few tricks (on 1/2 turns for the approach), loosen the nuts of covers of the bottom heads of rods so that there was the possibility of loosening them by hand. Remove the cover of the first rod with the placed in her bearing pad, try not to drop the last.

6. To protect the shaft journal and pull the mirror cylinder bolts on the bottom head of a rod a couple of pieces of a suitable size of the hose.

7. Remove the connecting rod bearing, then, resting a wooden handle of a hammer to bed at the bottom of the bearing head, push the connecting rod and piston assembly from the unit over the top of the cylinder. In the event of resistance, immediately stop the extraction assembly and verify the completeness of the removal of step deterioration in the upper part of the cylinder.
8. Acting in a similar manner, remove the remaining engine piston connecting rod assembly.

Installation be recovered to its cylinder rod coaxially carried by the corresponding cranking - to extract only proceed after the connecting rod will be located exactly parallel to the axis of the cylinder!

9. In order to avoid accidental damage and loss of bearings and components, replace the pads and fasten the bearing caps on their heads lower rods, tightening the nuts by hand.
