Installation of the piston rings

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Before you install new piston rings, check the gaps in their castles. It is understood that the lateral gaps landing rings in the grooves of the pistons has been tested and conform to standards (see. Section Checking the components connecting rod and piston).
2. Lay the connecting rod and piston assembly with a ring set on a work surface bench. From this point on each set of rings is rigidly "tied" to its piston. Now you can start measuring the backlash in the lock ring.

3. Fill the top (? 1) compression ring inside the first cylinder of the engine and align it perpendicular, pushing down the piston crown. The ring should be in the lower border area rings stroke in the cylinder.

4. Determine the amount of backlash in the ring lock using a probe-type blade. Blade (s) of the probe should be tight to slip in the lock. Compare result of measurement to requirements of Specifications. If the backlash comes in either direction of range before taking any steps to remedy the situation (see. Below), once again, make sure not to confuse the ring.

5. If the gap is too small, it is possible to extend a file by boring with a fine tooth. Pinch the right file in a vise, then slide the lock ring on the file, so that the end of the last was inside the circle. Slowly pull the ring, removing the excess metal with its ends in the castle. Reaching the end of a file, remove the ring once again check the gap, if necessary, repeat the procedure.

In no case do not push the ring from him on file, as this will lock the edges come together, there is a risk of destruction of the metal.

6. Over the clearance is not a crime, if not greater than 1.02 mm. Once again, make sure that the acquired set of rings are responsible for their characteristics to the needs of the engine of your car.
7. Repeat for the remaining rings (the second compression and oil scraper) of the piston of the first cylinder, and then for all the other piston rings. Remember that each set of rings is now uniquely "linked" to its piston, and which must be installed.
8. Check and correct properly the gaps in the castles of the Rings, you can start to put on its pistons.
9. The first puts the piston scraper (bottom) ring. Scraper ring consists of three separate sections. First season with the lower groove of the piston expander spring. If the spreader is equipped protivorotatsionnym tab, make sure that the latter was in response bore in the piston groove. Now set in the groove of the lower operating section of the ring. To avoid accidental damage to the working sections of the oil scraper ring, do not use them for any installation tool - Get into the groove just under / over one end of the first expander section, firmly press it with your finger and moving along the perimeter of the ring, tuck the rest. At least it sets the upper working section of the ring.

10. planted in the lower groove of the piston all three components of the oil scraper ring, check freedom of rotation (sliding in the groove), the upper and lower sections of the workers.
11. It sets the second (lower) compression ring. The ring should be installed marking up (to the bottom of the piston).

Be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions rings that are usually printed on the packaging kit. Do not confuse the second compression ring to the first (upper) - they have a different cross-section.

12. Using a special speculum and making sure that the ring was turned marked up, put him in the middle groove on the piston. Try not to plant the lock ring more than is really necessary for the smooth putting it on the piston.

13. Operating in a similar manner, set the first (upper) compression ring (label side up). Try not to be confused with the second upper ring.
14. Proceeding in a similar manner, alternating rings Complement all remaining plungers.
