Removing the crankshaft

Removing the crankshaft can only be extracted from the vehicle with the engine. It is understood that the flywheel / drive plate, crankshaft pulley, gas distribution belt / chain gears / sprockets, oil pan, maslozabornik, oil pump and piston connecting rod assembly has been dismantled (see. Part Engines SOHC or Engines DOHC this Chapter). Before removing the crankshaft must also otboltit and separated from the cylinder holder rear oil seal.

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Before retrieving the crankshaft of the engine, measure the amount of its axial play. Secure the DTI gauge on the block aligned crankshaft, resting his cheek plug one end of the crank or shaft journal.

2. Slide the crankshaft all the way back and reset the display unit. Now push the shaft in the opposite direction and read the meter. The quantity of free running in the longitudinal direction of the shaft and has its end play. Compare result of measurement to requirements of Specifications. If the backlash exceeds maximum permissible value, check for signs of excessive wear resistant surface of the shaft. In the absence of obvious signs of wear and tear, installation of new thrust washers usually helps to correct the situation.

3. In the absence of a dial gauge on hand, you can use a conventional blade-type probe. Gently push the shaft all the way forward on the engine, and then determine the value of the gap formed between the cheek and the front wall of the crank rear (thrust) main bearing firmly planted in a corresponding blade thickness (s) of the probe.

4. In a few tricks (by 1/4 of a turn for the approach) in strict reverse order of their tightening (see. Section Installation cranked shaft and check of working backlashes of radical bearings), loosen the screws of main bearing caps so that there was the possibility of eversion manually. Main bearing caps are usually equipped with cast marks in the form of arrows, when properly installed pointing toward the timing. If necessary, apply a similar markings on their own with the help of punch.

On SOHC engine is enough to mark the direction of planting covers only the front and rear bearings - other cover is a monolithic assembly.

5. Caution Tap the bearing caps hammer with soft brisk and remove them from the engine block. If necessary, use bolts as levers. Make sure that when removing the caps not been lost invested in these main bearing shells.
6. Carefully remove the crankshaft of the engine (due to the weight of the assembly is wise to enlist the help of an assistant). Make sure that the main bearing shells remained in their beds in the unit and the covers. Place the lid on the regular places on the block, and from the hand tighten the mounting bolts.

7. On engines DOHC necessary to assess the degree of stretching of bolts main bearing caps. If the difference between the diameter of the threaded part of the bolt measured at selected stations in the figure exceeds 0.11 mm, the bolt should be replaced.

Strictly speaking, it makes sense to just buy a replacement set of mounting bolts and use them in the assembly.
