Check of serviceability of functioning and replacement of the ignition switch and lock the steering column lock

Considered in this manual car models are equipped with additional safety (SRS). Before proceeding with any work near the airbag unit, steering column and instrument panel, disconnect SRS to avoid injury at its casual operation (see. Section Airbags - general information). Wiring of chain SRS is easy for distinguishing on yellow color of isolation.

CHECK

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Turn off the system additional security.
2. Remove the driver's knee stress and covers the column cover (see chap. Body).

3. Disconnect the connector, located about 15 cm below the switch.

And - pin wiring
B - Loosen the screws
C - Connector buzzer key
D - lock cylinder housing

4. Using an ohmmeter, check the connector for conductivity between the contact terminals in each of the positions of the ignition key.
Switch position
The presence of conduction between terminals
OFF (off).
Conductivity missing
ACC (Auxiliary)
1 and 2
ON (Ignition) (1993 and 1994)
1, 2 and 3
ON (Ignition) 1995
1, 2, 3 and 4
START (Start) (1993 and 1994)
1, 3, 4 and 5
START (start) since 1995
1, 3, 5 and 6

5. If any irregularities in the distribution of conductivity replace the switch.
6. Evaluate the degree of wear and reliability of fixing lock cylinder. Make sure that the location of the index mark corresponds to the true state of the key in the lock. In case of defects, replace the lock assembly.

REPLACEMENT

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Follow the procedures described in paragraphs 1 to 3 in order to ensure access to the ignition switch.
2. Disconnect the connector, remove the mounting screws and remove the switch together with a piece harness.
3. Install in the reverse order.

4. Replacement lock cylinder individually is not feasible. In the case of defects must replace the entire assembly of the ignition. Remove the bolts shear assembly (use a drill and special extractor), divide in half the support bracket and remove it from the steering column.

5. Replace the failed breaker new screw new bolts and tighten them to the cutting head. At a corresponding complete set of the car do not forget to return to the place of spring contact airbags, only then install the steering wheel (see chap. Suspension and steering).
