Power exterior mirrors - the general data and check of serviceability of functioning
In most cases, the drive side mirrors used two electric motors: one provides adjustment of position of a mirror in a vertical plane, the second - in the horizontal. Additionally, some models provided Heated mirrors, triggered when the rear window defogger.
The switch is equipped with a selector motor control unit, providing the choice of energizing direction (to the right or left mirror). Without starting the engine, turn the ignition key to ON, the lower the glass door and try all the modes of operation of the actuator both side mirrors.
Listen carefully to publish motors drive mirror sound.
If hearing the engine is working properly, but the mirror does not change its position, you may have a defect in the drive mechanism inside the mirror. Remove a corresponding mirror and disassemble it to search for the reasons for refusal.
If the mirrors do not work and their drive motors do not emit any sound, check the corresponding fuse (see chap. Adjustment and routine maintenance).
If the fuse is OK, remove from its support of the switch of management of functioning of the electric mirrors (do not disconnect the wiring). Turn on the ignition and check that the power supply to the switch. The voltage should occur at one of the terminals switch connector, otherwise check the condition of the connecting wiring in the area between the switch and fuse box mounting.
If power is supplied properly, disconnect the wiring harness and check the distribution of conductivity between the terminals switch in its various positions (see. Section Check of serviceability of functioning and replacement of the instrument panel switches). Replace the faulty switch.
Restore initial connection of electrical wiring and look for the ground wire assembly switch. Duplicate the grounding jumper wire. Now, if the motor becomes operational, to restore the quality of the assembly ground to ground.
If grounding of the procedure and the drive still does not work, remove the mirror assembly and check that the supply voltage to it. Turn on the ignition and turn the selector switch assembly controls on the corresponding adjustment of the mirror. When you move the keys adjust the position of a mirror in any of the operating positions to drive the latter must be energized.
In identifying violations of the power supply check the condition of the wiring on the section between switch and actuator.
If voltage is applied properly, remove the mirror and check up serviceability of functioning drive by directly powering it from the batteries. Defective mirror Replace.
