Removing, dismantling and installation of the rack and pinion

Considered in this manual car models are equipped with additional safety (SRS). Before proceeding with any work near the airbag unit, steering column and instrument panel, disconnect SRS to avoid injury at its casual operation (see chap. Onboard electric equipment). Wiring of chain SRS is easy for distinguishing on yellow color of isolation. To avoid damaging the system, SRS, Make sure that the steering shaft was not turned after removing the steering wheel. Lock the column with the ignition key in the straight position of the front wheels.

REMOVAL

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Details of installation of the steering gear are shown in the illustration.

2. Park the car in a straight line from the deployed position of the front wheels. Disconnect the negative wire from the battery. On models equipped with airbags, and disconnect the positive lead and before proceeding with the procedure Wait at least 10 minutes.
3. Remove the air cleaner inlet duct (see chap. The power supply system and release). Remove the carbon adsorber with its mounting bracket (see chap. Engine management).
4. Give fixing nuts and remove the bulkhead engine compartment protective cover universal joint. Mark the position of the universal joint relative to the input shaft of a rack and pinion, and then remove the coupling bolt fastening of the bottom of the intermediate shaft.

Avoid turning the steering wheel at the removed rack gear on models equipped with airbags. If necessary, remove the steering wheel and align the spring contact (see. Section Removal and installation of the steering wheel). In order to guarantee the steering wheel lock fixed using the seat belt.

5. Keep a container under the sump drain rack and pinion. Disconnect from the pressure of gear and hydraulic return line. Immediately plug the open ends of lines in order to avoid hit in dirt system and to minimize the loss of hydraulic fluid.

6. Loosen the wheel nuts, Poddomkratte the front of the car and establish it on props. Cock a lay brake and remove the wheel. At a corresponding complete set of the car, remove the crankcase.
7. Release the tie-rods of the levers of rotary fists (see. Section Removal and installation of tips of steering drafts).
8. Remove the anti-roll bar (see. Section Removal and installation of the front anti-roll bar).
9. Remove the power unit extending under the central crossmember (see chap. Engine).
10. Give nuts of bolts of fastening of the steering mechanism. Separate the steering column intermediate shaft from the input shaft pinion gear. Remove the steering gear assembly from under the vehicle.

11. Check the condition of bushings supports rack and pinion assembly. In case of signs of destruction, replace the rubber bushings.

STRIPPING

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Design rack preedachi shown in the illustration.

2. Before disassembling the rack and pinion gear tightening measure effort and record the measurement result as a recommended value. Before starting the measurement, disconnect the hydraulic line and drain the hydraulic fluid from the crankcase. Do not clamp made of aluminum alloy housing in a vise.

3. Remove the gear - try not to damage the O-rings.
4. Release the belt and remove protective cover.

5. Disconnect from the rack rod steering rod.

6. Release the lever, and remove the pinion assembly.

7. Drill attachment at the end of gear (use a drill 2 mm).

8. Remove the end cap housing a rack and pinion.

9. Remove the rack and remove the sealing ring from it - use a hair dryer, heating ring to a temperature of about 40 ? C.

10. Remove the center bushing and seal the steering rack, - try not to damage the inner surface of the gear housing.

ASSEMBLY

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Before installing the rail heat the new Teflon sealing ring hairdryer to 40 ? C. For planting the ring, use a special tool.

2. Place the sealing sleeve rail. To prevent the risk of damage to the cuff of the rack teeth into a twisted thread the tube in a polymer film.

3. After the cuff remove it from the plastic film. Make sure the cuff is properly seated. Put the central sleeve and collar.

4. Tighten with demanded effort end cover and secure it with a lock nut.

5. Bring the rack gear to the neutral position.

6. Coat the seal lip pinion assembly of multi-purpose grease, then press in the oil seal using a suitable mandrel. Make sure that the protrusion gland located on the front side.

7. Install bearing gear.

8. Do not forget to replace the gaskets with new with the same number.

9. Put on the new gear ring seals. Before planting warm hairdryer ring to a temperature of 40 ? C. Make sure that the ring is properly located in the groove of the valve.

10. Before installing the gear grease lubricated universal ball joint and the protrusion gland.

11. Put the gear assembly in the gear casing. Try not to damage the oil seal.

12. Before installing the rear cover universal grease lubricated rear oil seal.

13. Replace the back cover in accordance with the instructions in the illustration, - try not to damage the oil seal and ring worm.

14. Acting in strict order), set the spring washer, spring retainer and diaphragm.

15. Make sure that the spring diaphragm was set painted white convex side out.

16. Install the spring retainer and the adjusting screw. Install the new lock washer. Connect a retainer (2) from the inner side of the seat rod (1). To lock to the internal thread (1) Use sealant. Screw the socket to the rail (4) and tighten it with demanded effort.

17. Bend the lock washer flags.
18. Connect the tie rod ends and install protective covers.

INSTALLATION

PERFORMANCE ORDER

Before installing, make sure that the rack gear display at the center position corresponding to the straight-ahead position of the front wheels of the car.

1. Start the assembly of the steering mechanism on the regular place and connect it to the steering shaft (track correctness of combination of landing labels).

2. Install the mounting clamps, screw bolts and tighten them with demanded effort. Install the shield assembly of the right support mechanism.

3. Set the center crossmember (see chap. Engine).
4. Install the anti-roll bar (see. Section Removal and installation of the front anti-roll bar).
5. Connect the tie rod to the steering knuckle arms (see. Section Removal and installation of tips of steering drafts).
6. Install crankcase protection components.
7. Install the wheel, lower the car on the earth and tighten wheel nuts with demanded effort (see chap. Adjustment and routine maintenance).
8. Replace the universal joint pinch bolt and tighten it with demanded effort. Install a protective cover of the hinge.
9. Connect the crankcase to the rack and pinion, and the pressure hydraulic return line. Fill the tank at the steering pump the required amount of hydraulic fluid required grade (see chap. Adjustment and routine maintenance).
10. Replace the carbon adsorber and the air cleaner assembly with the inlet duct.
11. "Bleed" steering system (see. Section Bleeding the hydraulic path of system of strengthening of helm).
